Howdy! Just picked up an 86 VF500F and found this site for info! Already after almost a week it has enlightened me. Never heard the thing run, and it is in pieces in my garage. Just a couple more bolts and the motor can come out.... but i'm not going that far. Had a 79 XS650 that never ran either.... but i was too drunk to understand why. 5 years sober now and i thought i would give it a shot! Anyway, It's nice to see this site. Intercepters have been a dream of mine scince i grew the short and curly. Well thats me for now! See ya!

When this dude gets that AC unit installed, I hope he will share.. We fry here on the leftcoast part of Ogeron where it hits as much as 80 sometimes on a really hot day. That is 80F for the dudes that speak metric.

Welcome to this den of deranged mutant scooter hooters. I was in your neck of the woods last summer with the fifth wheel. A trip that overall, i would like to forget. But nothing to do with your fine city. More unfortunate circumstances that seemed to hunt me down, chew me up and spit me out. Lots of fifth wheel troubles but a couple fine businesses in Spokane were most helpful in getting me back on the road.

You will fine many here who can offer sound advise in helping you with your project. A few of us here in the Vancouver area are planning a three day road trip that just may include a ride through your area. We may look you up.

Welcome! Congratulations on the five years of sobriety. Congratulations on your new-to-you- (new-to-me) bike. This is a great place.

thank you all! Gosh i feel like a prom queen! Randy, keep that in mind. I would like to go on a ride with your group. If you are planning to make it this way, SERIOUSLY consider a drive around lake coeur d' alane. It's an all day event with 80% twistys. Anyways my first lesson with this VF is: don't tell the wife how much you spent on it or parts. And the second: dont show her the garage full of parts that will be a fun ride someday.

I have everything delivered to my place of business, then it goes in the trunk of the company car, then in the garage which is such a mess the wife never notices.

Or . . . ditch the wife concept, let the hormones run off leash and buy all the farkles for the 500/750/800/1200 that you want without answering to anyone. Double Bonus: I also own the remote and 2/14 is a famous US Marine aviation squadron rather than a holiday. :biggrin1:

uh-oh! I see carbs removed from the air plenum.

    Major no-no on a V4.

Welcome to the site. Get those carbs mounted back on the plenum and you better be sure to leak test those with fuel before remounting on the bike.

??????? Tinkerin I don't understand. Just to see that we are on the same page, the plenum is the aluminum manifold directly atatched to the air intake side of the carbs. This keeps all 4 mounted securely in one position and acts like a vaccum equalizer (sorta). Where I see it leaking would be at the tube connecting the float bowls. being able to move around would break loose the crusty o-rings and then leak. I plan on replacing all o-rings and gaskets. Other than that i'm not sure where else.... but yeah, I can see people cringe when that mess of carbs comes up! But don't worry. The po was supper nice. His deal was clean carbs with the sale. I can show you a pic of the "clean" carbs which they clearly were not. I had to use a pry mechanizim to get the vaccume tube holding the jet needle out. So I let him know and within 2 days he brought me another set. These were very clean and are at the shop getting cleaned anyways. A set of carbs for nada. I could clean the ones u see up there sell em and get all my parts money back. :)
