    hi

for the second time i need to re-do my plug to r/r wiring...
first time because the previous owner did some extensions with small wires that went boom after a while, and now because they melt near the plug, and plug included...

going overkill this time and cut the wires were they enter the wire loom and going to do some new extensions to the r/r with new and wider wires and route them outside the stock wire loom(not going for the work to remove the old ones).
they only go from the stator to a plug and then to r/r right?

as i am affraid that next time the stator to plug wires go bad(as i am going to put better ones from plug to r/r) i want also to replace the wires nearest the stator as possible.

    as anyone did it?
where is the better spot to cut and solder thicker wires?
the wires coming from the stator coils are thin ones(really thin) but when they exit the stator they are the yellow ones so they must be soldered toghether somewhere.

sorry for the bad english and greeting from a portuguese vfr owner(street fighter modded and for daily use,all year )

    not for me...
    shipping to portugal would kill...

and the arness is just from the plug to the r/r.

should i keep the stock stator to plug wires?

    hello

    just a question:
    the r/r has 3 yelow wires(charge) a brown and a red.
brown must be earth and red charge to battery.
is it worth to do a split on both ,another wire to improve ground and route a new wire from red to battery?

without lights i get 14.2v but with light(35w xenon) it drops to 13.2v.
even worse if i put on the other light(i have separate headlight with h3 lamps)...

    i am running yamaha R1 r/r

I got the upgraded main harness and ricks motorsport r/r from wiremybike. As for the connectors from the stator to the r/r, I don't have any. Mine melted off when the first r/r went bad and I soldered the wires straight through to avoid that situation.

I also have a small computer fan wired to the license plate light attached to the r/r to keep it cool. I even checked it out. With the tail section of the bike off and no fan on the r/r I started the bike and let it idle for 5 to 10 minutes. Using an infrared thermometer I measured the temperature of the r/r to be around 150 degrees Fahrenheit. I installed the fan and repeated the test. The temperature of the r/r measured between 100 and 105 degrees. An amazing improvement for a fan that draws 0.12 Amps.

FYI......Flat Rate International Priority mail (small box) to Portugal from the U.S. only costs $14 U.S. dollars.

Good stuff, that is a great experiment.
Having the vfrness hooked in tomorrow. I might wire in a fan as well.

    hi

i have no cooling problems as i use a yamaha R1 rear end and a r1 regulator wich is bigger and has lots of colling fins.the R/R is partialy at sight and at the wind.
i also replaced the wellow wires this time, with bigger wires directly to the r/r.

my questions is should i also split the earth and power wires on the R/R and do another earth and power directly to the battery?

the vfrness looks like it has, can someone confirm it?

Good stuff fer sure. I replaced my stator about three years ago on my GEN 3 bike as it was not charging the battery. Measured AC current when I un-plugged it from the loom and compared it to the gud book and its numbas were off. Its a high mileage bike and I was running the same r/r as there was not a problem. Recently the r/r got me stuck on the side of the road, I had a slight warning when I was doing something with the bike as maintenance goes, and I looked at the r/r and there was a blob of rubber near the connectors where the r/r plugs into the loom. Anyway, I chose to disregard this and kept riding. Turned out r/r went bad and fried my starter relay too! It was a painless break-down, I called someone and they where there were there within minutes. Got bike back to my house and found fried starter relay and replaced it along with an up-graded Honda r/r made in Thailand that I had sitting around and all is GUD. My wires where not bad and I did not have to do any soldering, I did have to cut off the ends that went to the starter relay though. Anyway, just a sniglet into the life of a 21 year old VFR with 75,000 miles. Cheers...live to ride, ride to live....
