I just finished installing my delkevic headers on my 2000 vfr.
These headers have no place for the exhaust sensors so I have removed them from the bike.
I had read that if I used 330 ohm resistors and pluged them into the harness were the os sensors used to be it would get rid of the light on my dash. Well it did and it idled fine with no light on the dash, I reved the engine up and they both just started to smoke then caught fire ! Nothing serious but what did I do wrong ? Please anyone who has made there own c02 eliminators please help me !!

I think you mean O2 sensors, not cO2?

sounds like there wasn't enough resistance.

thats what I figured, maybe I used the wrong size resistors..... I cant see the colored lines to figure out what # they were ......... I am not sure what burnt charcol represents in ohms

maybe you put Amrican made resistors in your Canadian bike..............

having had experience with resistors in Alarm panels and using the wrong one I would say that you had the wrong resistors...buying them at Radio shack is a crap shoot sometimes have had many that were put back in the wrong drawers.... good luck.....

Personally I just used the pre made o2 eliminators but I got them basically for free so.......... Many people have had good luck with the radio smack jobbers. I would suggest going back to the ol Radio Smacks (or wherever you're sourcing your resistors) with a digital multimeter and make sure you're buying what you think you're buying. Then you can be sure of what you're pluggin in and if they still go up in smoke we may have another problem here.

Thanks guys, I think I need to relearn my grade 11 electronics I must have had the wrong size resistors. I just went through the pack of resistors I have and installed the correct ones orange orange gold gold and confirmed with my multimeter 330 ohms. and the bike seems to be working good now.
Just waiting for my power comander to come in now.

If a little fire is not really your thing, you could just buy o2 elims from dynojet.

My PCIII came with O2 eliminators, so if you have one on the way... problem solved.

Resistance is one thing but what wattage are they rated for? sounds like you put in a resistor that wasn't able to handle the wattage??? Make it fatter...

I just saw this on another thread. Looks like, depending on how the unit is ordered, the o2's should be included. They weren't with mine but that was almost three years ago.

You have to have the right wattage . resitsorts are rated for ohms the colors and watts. if it is a round one probably too small the high watts are usually white square blocks.
if you smoked em then they were too small watts. Also even if you get bigger ones they will put off some heat so be carefull where you mount them.
