Can you give me a list of tools to take certain information from the bike that you think each motorcycle owner should own. Example: tire gauge. But I'm also thinking about tools that tell whether there is something wrong with an electrical part, battery etc.

multimeter from harbor freight $2.99 (look at fuses and get extra of all of the just in case)
basic wrenches 8,10,12,14 (comes with bike)
    allen wrenches (comes with bike)
screwdriver phillips and flat (comes with bike)
tire gauge, plug kit, valve core wrench (less than $10 at auto parts store)
    Hammer (just kidding)

I really don't keep a lot of tools on the bike, but I do have the above ones on my bike usually if I'm going farther than 50 miles from home.

Duct tape. A must. Held my right GSXR lighted mirror together when I broke the stem about 800 miles from home. Also good for holding together torn up fairings (haven't had to use it for that yet, though).

Also, lots of rechargeable batteries and a quick charger for all your farkles.

Extension cord and multi-oulet comes in handy for charging things up while camping or in a motel.

Spare R/R, wire, crimps, shrink tubing, wire ties, etc. You will need it eventually.

Head light, marker, and tail light bulbs.

The basics for what? Taking a cover off, general repair, total tear down or maybe an engine rebuild. Take a look at your bike's fasteners. You know nut's, bolts, screws, clamps, electrics etc. Figure out what fits them to remove and replace them.

Do you have any mechanical experience or skills? If you do then no need to ask unless it's for specialty tools. If not then get some $$$$ together and get Metric: wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, hammers, pry bars, punches, chisles, allen wrenches, dial calipers, sockets, extensions, ratchets, adapters and duct tape. Throw some band-aids and Mercurochrome in there too. That will be just a start if your going to be wrenching.

Last but not least a factory shop manual for your bike. Forget the Clymers/Hayes type manuals.

This looks like it'll handle >90% of what you need for wrenching a bike: Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

If you don't need that toolbox, you can save $50: My wife got my the 154 piece set several years ago, and for $99 it's a steal. It pretty much covers every tool I need on the cars and the bikes. The plastic case wears out after a while and then you don't stay as organized as when it's brand new. Then you have to get the big multi-drawer craftsman toolbox, then since you have all that extra room, you can buy more tools.

A torque wrench - very handy if you are anal (generally all my bolts are torqued to PFT)
A breaker bar <- must have for things that have been put together for a long time
    different weighted sledges
hacksaw for R/R vent fin modifications
craftsman bottle opener for malted refreshment
    oil drain pan
    extra washers
    mi-T-vac
uhh, oh yeah definitely a cordless screwdriver (quite possibly one of the handiest things invented)
I'm sure there are more but others will drop em in...

what do you need a bottle opener for? you have the kererator built into the garage....
In place of the bottle opener I would say a bikini clad bartender...
