I certainly don't plan on dropping my VF500F, but in case it does happen, I would like to have frame sliders installed. Anyone know a source for them?

I would imagine that this is something you would have to fabricate yourself. Buying some sliders for something else and making them work would probably be your best bet

The first link is like the style I have. The packaging looks a little different, mine were made (or distributed?) by KGM (I think... I can verify later if someone wants to know for sure). They actually look pretty good on the bike because they match the tubing style of the frame. Mounting hardware is decent. On my next build I'm going to weld tabs with studs to mount the lower portion of the guard instead of using the supplied square u-bolts (which work pretty good and didn't interfere with anything).

The ones in the 2nd link are made by MC Enterprises. They were decent too. Used to see a lot of these made for Hurricanes. I've never mounted a set on a 500, not sure how well they fit, but MC Ent usually made pretty good stuff.

Thread jack!!!! Capt 80's what rear cowl is on your 500? Thread jack over. And also rc51 frame sliders will work remove the front engine mounting bolt and replace it with the dc one then you'll have to make a drop bracket for the radiator hose. I worked on it for awhile and have even put it on the bike.

Airtech Honda RS250, I think 1988 style? - Something like that. Mounted to abbreviated VF500 seat pan. Complete tailsection comes off in seconds with two bolts underneath above the rear tire.

Cap'n any chance you could post a few photos of the undercarriage & fasteners?

The scale of this design fits the 500 really well.

    Thx!

you should check out Airtech-fiberglass for other options.......the NT6503R would look really good IMO. Don't forget you'll have to do something about the indentation at the back of the tank or it will look like ass.

Going back and looking at the pictures, the tail section I used is the 92 version. I just trimmed the front off at those holes. For a race bike it worked great. Doing it over for the street, I would probably make a custom seat section to raise the seat height and fill in the void at the rear tank bolt. I left the part of the original seat pan where it rides on the rubber grommet around the tank bolt and padded it. Never felt it racing.

so back on the original subject of this thread, does anybody have or know where to find a set of frame sliders to fit the 2nd gen bikes? (ie the 86-89 VFR 700's & 750's)

Rc51 frame sliders for 2nd gen

I found some Pro Impact sliders Lockhart Phillips was letting go rather cheap but any RC51 sliders will work.

I hear Krazy glue works well.......but i used the hardware supplied to replace the front engine mounting bolts, just like on the RC.
