So I test rode this bike last weekend.

    FS: 1999 Honda VFR-800 (18k miles)

As you can see, it's got a tad bit of rash, but rode quite nicely and really doesn't look that bad. I figure I'll touch it up with paint for now, maybe replace fairing if I find a good deal.

I can get it for $1800. I think even if I get it and decide it's not quite the bike for me, I can always turn around and sell it and at least break even, yeah?

Looks like a deal to me. I wouldn't sell mine for that and my plastics are worse and I have almost 80k miles.

Yeah my area tends to be all gixxers and busa's. Mostly young military guys and evidently they don't want VFRs. Works for me if it means a good deal on this thing!

I usually see 5th Gen VFRs in fair condition selling in the $2700 to $3500 range. The mileage you mentioned is still low for a VFR so I would say that you are getting a good deal assuming the title is clean and there is no major damage.

Be sure you don't hear any cam chain noise, ask the owner when he replaced the tensioners, or be prepared to spend for new ones after miles add up.

He said it's a '99 so if there is any cam chain noise or even cam chains he has a serious problem

Maybe he should inspect the carbs too LOL ! I have never been able to find them on the 5th Gen so I think they may be buried somewhere deep behind the fuel injectors LOL !!!

I didn't read through all 5 pages of the listing, but looks like a decent deal.

Does he have the mirrors? Some picture show them, some don't.
    Passenger grab handles?
    Owners manual?

Not deal breakers but would be nice to have. Good luck.

Ask for receipts of service work. I always do with any vehicle. Most people usually have them laying around somewhere.
