Hello everyone , My name is Roy and live in So Cal Ventura area . My last bike was a Ducati 900SS and had to sell it 7 years ago when my son got sick and had to move out of state , well I'm back and it's time to hit the road (not literally) . My first choice was a FJR , but now I'm fer sure leaning towards a VFR . My first street bike was a 750 Interceptor that I road to Laguna 7 years in a row and also to Colorado,Utah,Oregon and Tahoe .
So now that I'm looking to buy my FIRST used bike , should I get a Pre Vtec or a Vetec ? I really like the look of the 2002+ VFR thats red with black wheels and I'm finding some good examples on Graiglist . Any other good places to find a good used bike out here in So Cal ?
Any help would be much appreciated .
    Thanks

Welcome! I would say gen 6 is the way to go if for no other reason than they are dirt cheap and tons to choose from. Good luck in the hunt!

2002-2009 are 6 gens. Becuase of leftover anniversy models the 6 gens have taken a dip in resale, making now a good time to buy one. I am starting to see resale values recover to reflect more properly the machines actual value, at least in Colorado, so I wouldn't wait much longer. Some love Vtec and others don't, either way it's a great bike and any perceived negatives are easily tuned out should you find it neccesary.

More like off a cliff in this area, I have seen several camped oot on Craigslist for month's in 5k range. Considering that the origanl offering was 12k and up it is tough to top the gen 6 in piss poor resale value. Good for a new buyer though.

I'm still pulling my hair out over it. I gladly paid near MSRP in March of '08. The bike makes me happy regardless of its cost, but Honda didn't do anyone (except new buyers) any favors with the factory discounts. I was so pissed about it, at one point I didn't think I would ever buy Honda again.

I just went through the same dilemma and settled on a 5th gen over an '07 or '08. Both were pretty fantastic, I just fall in the non-Vtec column of folks. I'd been looking around nor cal for a few months and like Toe Cutter said, there are definitely more then a few special anniversaries itching to be sold at really tempting prices up here.

Go on Ebay, find a new 6gen, and click buy it now. You will never get a better deal on a vfr, new or used. Better hurry, spring is coming. Good luck.

    frame sliders

they make 'em all right, you have to drill the fairings so they can protrude and protect
google will cough up various suppliers

i saw an 08 with 1600 miles someplace here-there-where on web exactly escapes me now but you can get a fine machine for decent dough

Well , I am not having any good luck finding a bike that has not been dropped one way or another . I guess I have to keep looking till I luck out . The only real decent bike thats been for sell now since September is a single owner 99 VFR with 20,000 miles , Heli bars , Two brothers high pipes , sergent seat and really has been taken care of . Still was set on a 2002-2007 model that has'nt been dropped . Live in Southern Cal if any one has heads up on a great bike for sell . THX

Have you tried contacting your local dealerships, or even dealerships within a couple hundred miles? There is a decent chance you could find a new leftover '08 which will also have been discounted. You may also get lucky on Ebay. Here's a link for a new '08 with warranty. $8000, no fee's, plus sales tax, and you could probably move them down to $7500. Could make for a nice break-in ride home.

    sounds good from here

Price seems very good but of course you must get a professional mechanic to give it the once-over. I have an 02 with only 8300 miles and expect by the time another 20 goes on it some issues will surface. Valves, brakes, fluids, cam chains. Did the fellow maintain the machine per schedules?
