Wanted to pull the chain guard('04 VFR800) to clean out the old lube and crap. The two screws on the outside are no problem, but the one on the inside that fits down into the swingarm seems to 'pop' with a partial turn, but not come loose, and won't actually unscrew and come out. Anybody know the how of this?

I cleaned mine out and if i recall correctly, that particular one is a plastic clip type device. Get a small flat bladed screwdriver or pick under the head of it so you can pull up on it while gently turning. It should come out a little and then you can pop the whole thing out. Not sure why they did that but I can live with it.

Ah, wondered if might be something like that, but thought I'd ask before I started prying on things.

    Thank you!

I have had the same problem ,you can fish/bend the holder oot far enough to get the lines oot so you can deal with it on the bench. An easy fix to straighten the holder back oot .
