Well I've already dumped all of the canister deal and the flapped valve and eval stuff. Fired up the bike and no fi light so I guess I done something right now on to finish the delinking or the brakes.

Has anyone quantified the gains associated with eliminating the "junk"? Sometimes I wonder if that does more harm than good. Oh God, am I really getting that old?

I'll be damned (most likely); I never knew what that little plug was there for. Thought Honda accidentally drilled one hole too many I guess.

Meh, what harm does it do? It keeps aftermarket companies in business. And it keeps people out of the bars, gives them something to argue about, and probably makes some people feel good about themselves, all positives

When viewed from that perspective, its really unimportant whether you actually did anything or are just fooling around. Improvement is in the eye of the beholder. Even when youre talking about hard numbers.

Careful though, casting any doubt on anything around here will get you slapped with the curmudgeon tag pretty quick.

Proof over speculation? That's a great question and I've wondered the same thing. I am working on this. Called one Dyno shop this morning and their machine is down and won't be up for at least a week. Am planning on stopping by another shop this afternoon to see if I can schedule some time on the dyno.

I'm looking to get a baseline report before making some mods. Pulling the 'junk' might be part of this. Unfortunately, I'm a 1990 and Matt's would be FI right? So it won't exactly be apples and apples since the FI computer may make some adjustments in the absence of 'junk'.

I'm not suggesting that it does, but rather that it can. For example, the valves in newer bike's headers help to improve midrange performance. Aftermarket exhaust companies have a tough time beating them with a system that does not have a valve. Now, I understand that the flapper valve is primarily for airbox noise. I guess that I've just seen it many times where people take a bunch of stuff off the engine, vacuum lines and such, with the goal of a couple extra "free" hp and end up with something that doesn't run right.

I guess as I was reading I wondered if anyone had already done this with good results.

Ran the dyno tonight and no change with PAIR valves plugged off.

I have not done the snorkel, but I did run with and without the PAIR valves and it made zero difference on the Dyno

It looks awesome. But did you quantify any actual gains from the airbox mod? 5hp?

Here is my take on this, based upon my experiences. I don't believe that just doing one thing like removing the evap canister will provide any noticeable gain. What I do think works is using all of these things as part of a well thought out, and properly tuned, package of mods.

I haven't dyno'd since the airbox and tank were insulated, or the engine work was performed. I too am interested to see what kind of a number it can throw down. Just don't seem to have time for it right now.
