sorry, couldn't help it. But interested in what opinions the peanut gallery comes up with. Myself, I've only ever hand cleaned with sprays.

Ultrasonic cleaning is best, but you're gonna spend big big money on an ultrasonic cleaner big enough to fit the entire carb bank in it. The chemical solutions used in the ultrasonic cleaners are much less harsh on rubber parts than a common carb cleaner or brake clean spray. There is only one shop around here who has an ultrasonic cleaner big enough to stick an entire inline or v4 carb bank if that tells you how expensive they can be. I'd kill for one :p If you clean carbs by hand and use carb cleaner and brake cleaner make sure you use compressed air and get as much of that out as possible. It's good to go the extra mile and totally remove as many orings and other rubber components short of splitting the banks beforehand. I've seen quite a few parts come out of the bath looking brand new, pretty sweet.

Nice that you have those two options available to you. why not just use baking soda and vineger water, or even a borax solution similar to cleaning aluminum pots and pans?

edit: I have read that baking soda will cause discoloration of aluminum. I have not tested this yet.

You can just do one carb body at a time.
Ebay just over $100 for one large enough.

Yep. Harbor freight even has small ones that can fit a single carb body in them. But as you all know, it's very labor intensive to split the banks.

    Have you actually tried it?

Well I have, and it does not do anything except make them smell like lemon.

Worked very well, engine runs great, nice smooth idle, pulls strong to 11K. I will not be making a habit of pushing it to redline as I have been duly warned by the experts here not to do so if I want the cams and rockers to remain healthy.

so it reverts back to the "oiling issue" syndrome for the V4's?
