the one major problem is cam oiling...there is a kit out there that helps deliver more oil to the top end.

Good luck and welcome to the world

I pick the bike up tomorrow and really get to tear into. Until then I was reading online about dave dodge top end oiling kit and it seemed like something worth while. But where do you buy it? I cant find a link on where to purchase it, only how to install it

No fix - just keep an eye on them and replace as necessary.

Could you go into a bit more detail on what the flaw or flaws are? Which parts on the tensioner are suspect? Thx!

I don't know enough about it to precisely describe the design flaw. The VF750F/VF700F tensioners take up the slack in the chains and lock themselves. The problem is in the 'locking' mechanisms. They wear out, allowing the chain to back off intermittently and then retighten. At idle the chain would make a loud and sudden "chatter-chatter-chatter" noise. Then it would get quiet again, only to repeat over and over. I have heard this myself - unfortunately.

Honda mechaincs tell me that this is a relatively common issue with 1st Gen tensioners. I read that Honda switched to cam gears to disassociate the VFR from complaints over this problem.

Maybe others here have more insight into this?
