Okay, so i finally have some pictures. I bought this 2000 VFR800 in July for $2500 which I thought was a great deal. It came with Heli Bars, just had all fluids flushed, and had a Two Bros carbon fiber exhaust which I have since sold. I need a high mount Staintune. Plans for the winter here in CT are new DID gold chain and sprockets - I chose a 45 tooth rear, Sargent seat and EBC HH brakes. I already put a set of DDM HID lights on the bike, new grips, levers, blue dash LEDs and a carbon fiber triple tree cover as well as a Fabbrio smoke screen (gorgeous). I can't leave anything alone!!! I commute about 100 miles a day to work and could probably use tires in the Spring. I am kind of set on the Pilot Road 2s but would love any advice or tips from experience. I am coming from the Ducati world and this is my first Honda ever. Much more comfortable which is great as I am getting old. I also want to change the rim color as i think the black washes the bike out. Silver would look better I think. Thinking about a possible powder coat. The first thing I did was a new battery and a new version Honda R/R. I will keep the original under the seat as a spare. Cosmetically, the bike needed a front cowl which I got from Mason City Honda - even cheaper than Service Honda. They could not have been any easier to deal with. Highly recommended! As I am new to the 5th gen VFR and a tweaker, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love this site and have learned tons using the "search" function. Thank you all for your help.

26,000 and had the valves checked at 20,000. Low for a Honda I think but she definitely runs strong.

Congrats! Of course that's the best choice in year and color you could have made!

Can't give you any recommendations on what to tweak - sounds like you did more to your bike in 2 weeks than I've done in 2 years (not including the oil, fluids, etc).

    Enjoy!

Congrats on the new purchase. Same bike as me! Wow, you really did dig right in didn't you.
Let's see, what can I contribute... Ah, you might feel the flat spot at around 6k rpms, people use Power Commanders and O2 sensor plugs to alleviate that, with mostly good results.

I have lowered my front to assist in quicker handling. You may also raise the rear a fair amount, I did a little and it still isn't enough in my opinion.

I do think you are nuts on the silver wheels though! At least for the yellow bike. *Maybe* grey, but that is even questionable. Your money would be better spent on almost anything else in my opinion! But it is an opinion.

    That's about it!

Think about a GPR hi-rise... I am really happy with mine and it was cheaper than the staintune

    Exactly.

Congrats. Sweet bike, and a hell of a deal.

Regarding the wheels - you can strip that paint and have nice silver aluminum wheels. I know, because the guy that had my yella '00 did it to the back wheel. Used to be a pretty common mod, I think. I haven't gotten around to the front one yet, but picked up a used black rear - I kinda like the black wheels myself. For now, I have a spare rear. I recently started thinking that powder coating them white would be interesting with the yellow, except as often as they get cleaned, they'd probably be functionally black anyway.

Silver wheels look a lot better with the yellow. Here is a pic of my last one.

Powder coat. I told them I wanted a dark silver. I think they ended up looking perfect.

That's very slick. I currently have a black front wheel and both a stripped and a black rear. Been thinking of stripping the front too, but maybe I'll get 'em powder coated. Looks very nice - thanks for the info.

That is exactly what I want mine to look like. Was there a powder code or anything that they used? Did they clear powder over the silver? That bike looks gorgeous! Thanks cbrcrx!

I have used special duplicolor wheel paint on a set of 80's honeycombs on my mazda RX-7. The stuff seems to lay thicker than regular paint, has a really good finish, and holds up well. Its like 8 bucks a can, so you could give it a shot and not be out much cash if you don't like it. All i did was lightly scuff the surface with a scotch brite pad, then wipe it down with prep sol.
