That must be what's taking billy so long to reply. Must be filling one of those out.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings there billy. I understand your attention-whoring now and will be more sensitive to your problems.

Not just yet. My tinfoil hats are custom made and not for everyone. Just having redneck in your username doesnt automatically qualify you. If you're constant having trouble with undesirables reading your thoughts maybe we can talk

I don't seem to have voices in my head yet. If I do you'll be the first to know!

Yeah I figured I might as well cut my losses for a serious thread and just have at it around post 5 or so. No one else seemed to care so I figured why should I? Atleast the message is out there that if someone has a problem they're free to contact me about it.

Hopefully the people watching are as entertained as I am for writing it. I enjoy playing with the trolls. It's so cute when you make them squirm around like this.

    Pretty amusing I must say.

I can't say I expected my offer to turn out any different. My main purpose was to just let people know I'm willing to help with whatever I can. Just the kind of dude I am, ya know?

I'm sure with time my prominence on this forum will be where I want it to be eventually. It seems I've made enough of an impression on most people to bring the big names out of the woodworks, and that's within a few days of making an account here heh. Seems like I'll make a good fit here.

With that said, contrary to posts made earlier, I have some fires to put out, and I gotta get back to the grindstone.

    Cheers to you and yours.

I actually do have something along the lines of the original intent of this message. My stepson wants a desktop computer because his notebook is always in use by someone in the family, and I have told him you get more for your money with a desktop. That being said, he naturally wants to throw together a gaming rig. Well, as you and I both know, those can get pricey. Now here's the deal... I have been trying to figure out what we could throw together a rig that would have been top of the line say 2-3 yrs ago for. Every time I try starting from a barebones, I end up hitting $600 before I'm done. The damned OS costing $109 doesn't help, and I do not want to teach him piracy as I think programmers deserve their living. Lord knows, it's a tedious job and I'd rather they do it than me. I have also explored the off-lease option, but most times then you are talking about a low power supply so dropping a decent vid card in there wouldn't work. I like Linux for the OS, but naturally he's windows only because he has 0 experience with anything else and game emulation on Linux leave a lot to be desired anyway.

I'm thinking along the lines of 1-1.5 TB hard drive, at least 2 G RAM, decent vid card that has HD out, built in sound (I'd even do vid on the MB if it was a fair rig. At least a 400W PS. Have a wireless keyboard and mouse, don't need floppy. DVD +RW a must.

Suggestions? I'd like to buy it as parts so I can teach him how to build one. I have spent a lot of time on tigerdirect where I do a lot of business. I need the system to handle windows 7 and be able to at least run most modern games at a playable level if not at an astounding frame rate.

No way you'll ever need 1.5 terabytes. I'd drop that down to a 360 gig or 500 if you really think he'll use it. I have a 500 at home and that's more then enough for normal use, unless you are actually a pirate. :)P)

Give me a minute or two to do some figuring and i'll see what i can come up with. 600 will be my threshold but i may go a bit over. Won't break the bank.

Email sent Reg. That's motherboard, proc, memory, psu, case, video card, hard drive(640gb), operating system, and DVD burner for about 525$.

Wasn't sure if you wanted a monitor or not so I left some room to play with but I bet that will be more then enough.

That system right there will last you a solid 3 years no problem in terms of ability to do things in the future. My machine is lesser then that little beauty and I play pretty much whatever I want no problem so that should work out better for ya.

    Hope that helped you!

Pity that most alienware PC's use run of the mill hardware and they overcharge for it. I build machines in their caliber for half the cost.

And good luck getting them to honor a warranty on anything. They're pretty aweful to deal with.
