My stand out trip was to Fort Mountain where I found a gem. I rode that section of twists over and over grinning from ear to ear. No potholes or cracks from start to finish. There are curves everywhere in N.Ga. but Fort Mtn. might have the best road conditions in the state.

It has been another great year on the VFR! I hate to see this riding season come to an end, now I look back wishing I had found time to get out and find more new roads. If you have a route or destination worth mentioning then I want to know about it so I can start making plans for next year.

    Cheers,
    Park

I took several great trips in 2010, but the last one was the longest, two weeks and 3,400+ miles (PA, MD, DC, DE, WVA, VA, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, FL). It rained most of the first travel day to TN, so that was no big deal, and then we had absolutely gorgeous weather the entire rest of the trip. Rode the Dragon, Serpent, Hell Bender, Cherohala, and a few others, visited my brother in Atlanta, went to the Barber Vintage Bike Show and Races and toured the Barber Museum, visited friends and spent three days on the beach on the Gulf Coast of Florida, and visited my nephew in Baltimore on the way home. A tight schedule with lots of riding, but that's what I like to do. Might do the Natchez Trace next year for one of my trips.

    D.C. to NH and back

At the beginning of September I rode my '93 from Arlington up to my folks place in NH for a wedding. The ride up was terrific weather, but tons of traffic, and unfortunately I was on a schedule so there was no room for back roads.

But once I was up there NH I took a couple days to head around my old stomping grounds in Lincoln (all the roads I grew up learning to drift in the snow on). The best thing ever for me was that the Kancamagus Highway and Bear Notch Road (the former being a nationally reputed great rode to ride) both got fresh black top at the beginning of the summer. Oh boy did I dig into those corners. I'm not a knee dragger, but on one hairpin inparticular my toes were scraping and my knee was pretty darn close. The whole road is like a less technical version of 211 in Virginia if any of you are familiar.

The ride home was much less busy traffic wise, but it rained on me all the way from CT to D.C. Luckily it was unseasonably warm for September so it was a warm rain and I didn't have to stop riding.

Here's a pic of my bike loaded out when I left at 1AM on a Friday night. Yes, I'm running without fairings because I bought it after 2 low-sides. Notable detail: I managed to strap my backpack to my trunk bag using just the backpack straps. 1,600+ miles of back-pain free riding =)

A friend of mine talked about a Barber Museum trip this summer, that's something I have to do eventually. Everyone says you can't see it all in 1 Day.

SLO 2010 I mean that was a blast. The travel to and from and during was full of just about everything you could experience on a bike ride. Good and bad weather. Good and bad food. Good and bad hotels. Good and good destination hosts and company. And fucking good Firestone beer.

The solo trip to Long Dong's Geburtstag in October... This wasn't a marathon trip at only 500 miles one way but with the flat tire outside of Buttonwillow and questionable tire patches limping the bike into Bakersfield for a new tire it sure was exciting! Then there was the lightning storm as i was going over the Grapevine on I-5 in the dark... Would I do it again? Hell yes, lets go!

Boy all these trips sound awesome. I just picked my VFR up in august and only got to do two 500 mile trips across PA. The first one ended with my rectifier frying 200 miles from home... so much for the PO saying it had been upgraded. The second was a nice ride down PA rt30, which has its twisty moments and good scenery through Gettysburg. Hopefully once i graduate I'll be able to get some time to ride to the dragon as well as up towards Maine.

It was one hell of a riding season. I did about 16,000 (and counting), 2 trips to deals gap, 1 Nashville to St. Louis and back, countless runs to Center Hill Dam, and 1 totaled motorcycle. Great riding, great experiences, cardboard cutouts (fall G2G guys know what I'm talking about) and best part of all was meeting all the different riders along the way.

The best trips were by far the rides to Deals Gap. (spring G2G and fall G2G) The roads were fantastic and it was awesome to finally put a face to some of the members on this board. I had a little trouble on the way back from the fall G2G (R.I.P. RC51) but its all apart of the experience. I'm not done riding for the year just yet but when the roads ice up at least I have plenty of pictures to look back on the 2010 riding season.

here's a few from the spring G2G Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket:cheersaf:

This September 3 of my friends and I jumped in an RV and drove it from Orlando to Phoenix with 3 bikes in tow. We met a couple of our friends out there and rented some Harleys (I know) and rode all over northern AZ and southern UT. It was some of the most be-a-u-tiful terrain I've ever seen, from Aspen forests at 10,000 feet to canyons that looked a mile deep. Wide open flat roads as long as you can see to twisty cayon roads that the sides of the road is the mountain wall. In one day we had a tempurature range of 39 degrees in the morning to 108 in the afternoon. Not a drop of rain the whole time, it was one of those perfect trips. We plan on doing it again this year, 5,000 miles in an RV and 1,600 miles on the bike in 9 days. Thats a lot of seat time.

Toxic and I went to Rushmore and Vegas but the ride around Palomar during Long's birthday topped it. Ya'll should put your lives in order and join us next year. I will never miss it while I am alive and can ride.

In March I rode 850 miles to Phoenix. Glad I did it although it was for a funeral.
Then there was SLO whatever-th, which is always a great time.

The best was Laguna Seca in July. Stayed with Bear and NCB. Found a new favorite pub(The Mucky Duck), saw my buddy's band play, saw some great racing. Got to introduce a bunch of members to other members that had not met yet. Good times Good times.

Then Reg came up for a day. Always fun to ride with Reg.
I am now exploring Northern Arizona. Been here before, but never on 2 wheels.

Laguna Seca trip was great, although there wasn't any riding involved it was a yearly high point to visit with Ron and Drew. Bonus: I got to meet the usual gang of thugs that frequent Regs roadhouse, or many of them anyways, the infamous Sac crew (feared throughout the land) and met Jason and Long down in San Diego

The most memorable though? Two days superbike school at NJMP, with a stop to visit Bubba Z. That one was the topper , because it involved riding.

Now this is a thread I've enjoyed reading.

I would really like to meet you, and as soon as I can leave this job (I'm trying to retire in 20 months), I'll be on the road most of the time and everywhere. Never been out your way, but can't wait to make that trip. It's a long ride to SLO (almost 2,900 miles one way), but maybe, just maybe, I'll make it in 2011. We'll see.

My favorite trip in 2010 was just like the last twenty trips to Sturgis. We put the Harley in the back of the VW, drive to The Black Hills, cuss the commies that prevented us real Americans from having Ronald Raygun up on that mountain, park the Harley in downtown Sturgis, get shitface and look at titties for a week.

It's good to have something in common :boobies4:

Wife and I rode from Grand Junction, through Ouray to Silverton, Durango, and Cortez. Rode through Mesa Verde and came back to Grand Junction through Telluride. That was on the cruiser, would love to do it again this year on the VFR with riding buddies.
