    OK... I'm back....

Didnt get to ride at all as I have been on Paternity leave for the past 3 months helping to take care of my most awesome little boy.

Anyhow, I noticed my rear end , plastics only falling apart near my tail light . I have tried to repair this on many occasions and it never seems to hold.

Just wondering if anyone knew a mod or where to get the complete rear fairings for a 3rd gen VFR without going to the dealer.

    Thanks

I would try and use fiberglass mesh with resin. I used this stuff on a project of mine to repair a cracked front fairing and side panels with this stuff and it held up great. I am riding two years on the repairs and it is still holding strong.

    1. There is a thread somewhere about gluing it into 1 piece, smoothing it out and repainting.

    2. But a 1 piece fibeglass rear from Airtech.

mine were busted up. I plastic welded them back together. Did not make them one piece but there was someone who did - screen name escapes me at the moment.

Chances are that what's busting up your plastics is that the alignment of the mount points has become tweaked. I'd be willing to bet that the bike has been hauled on a trailer or in a pickup and strapped down by the rear grab handles. This will end up spreading out the rear mount points and then add tension on the tabs. Fix the broken plastics and then do a test fit of the plastics. If everything doesn't line up perfectly, adjust the mount points on the bike (i.e. hammer)

I also welded it with ABS plastic rods and a heat gun but I never thought of welding it together?

I WILL GIVE IT A TRY!!!

How did you plastic weld your fairings. Did you use a heat-gun or a thing that looks like a solder iron? Did you use ABS rods?

I thought it was 2wheel'tone who made the tail one piece but can't seem to locate a picture. It could easily have been someone else too.

I used a heat gun with my air compressor as the source. I believe it was ABS rods. Photos in this thread: http://vfrworld.com/forums/3rd-4th-...9-new-project-bike-hits-stable-90-vfr750.html

Definitely takes some practice to get the technique. Proper fixturing is key since you have to melt the plastic to the point where it's mush all the way through. Then cool and reheat to tweak back to proper position.

I decided mine was too far gone and will purchase from Airtech.

Just can't be bothered to fix it. Its really in ratty shape and missing some plastic as well.

Just ordered one from Airtech, fibreglass and one piece.... Won't be transporting anyone, except for a sandwich anyways as this is my daily driver.

Looks like a quality product should get here before Christmas.

I'd give it to you for the cost of shipping if you really need it but, I dont think they are much use except to cut and replace already broken sections.

Let me know and I'll take some pics for you or not .

yeah I really don't need it ..I was gonna try and do a "project "over the winter break.... but I appreciate the offer. what I am looking for is a third gen rear fairing. to adapt to my 2nd gen...I like the tail light /turn signals... its not a "I need to do it right now project" just something I want to play around with...
