Please let us know what you find out. This is so weird and I'm curious to know what could be causing it.

Good idea. I'll get it when I'm home from work this afternoon and post it.

My VF500 had a Bridgestone and a Metzler 130 rear on it.

I took it half way across the country and didn't notice anything odd.

Looking forward to seeing the video.

I assume that while you did that you also checked that the rim is true? Easiest and safest to do on the right side (away from the chain and sprockets). Simply rest a object or your hand on the swingarm and lightly make contact with the side of the rim while the wheel is spinning to check for trueness. If its good I would try a remount. I've seen this on bicycles but I don't think its happened to me on a bike. Does this tire have a line around the sidewall just above the rim? If so, you should be able to see where it is off.

Yep, that's a bent wheel if I've ever seen one. I've got a good spare in case you need one, just shoot me a PM.

How is it a bent wheel if he hasn't verified that he checked it yet? I've seen this happen with bias tires. You're so quick to jump to conclusions without proper troubleshooting/diagnosis.

The rim is true; I checked it when I checked the tire. I'm hoping to pull the wheel off and have the tire reset.

Glad to hear the rim is true. Please keep us posted whether the tire re-mount solves the problem.

Well, I took the wheel into the local Honda shop today. Looks like the wheel itself is bent. So now I'm on the hunt for a wheel. Luckily the tire itself is ok.

Too bad you live so far away. I have a few that I am about to toss...

Shipping would be too much from here.

Thanks for thinking of me. Here's hoping I get the bike back on the road before I lose the rest of the season.

Bummer, so it was the rim after all. Did the Honda tech say what might have caused this?

He didn't say. He reset the tire on the wheel but it didn't help.

How much was the rim out of spec?

The FSM notes the service limits as:

    Radial runout: 2.0mm
    Axial runout: 2.0mm

He didn't measure it. He put it on the balancing machine, checked it, reset the tire and tried again but couldn't get the wobble out.

    Huh, interesting.

Falconeer - I've still got that rear wheel if you are interested. PM me and I'll make you a deal on it.
