I was looking at this exact same luggae on ebay. I am very interested in the quality of it as the price is much better than my local dealer...

I had the non-sport version of the same bags for a year on my vtx and loved them. I paid about 140 at bike week in Daytona in 04.

My concern with them is that it looks like it would hang fairly close to the undertail pipes. It does not really say anything about having heat shielding on the side of the bag near the pipes.

I have been looking at the saddle bags and the tail bag. I have a Tourmaster/Cortec tank bag and the quality if really good. I don't think the heat from the muffler heat shields would be enough to damage them since they barely get warmer then ambient on my bike. If anyone that has mounted them on a 2002+ VFR, I would be interested in pictures of the mounting system.

I have Fieldsheer bags and they are just about the same as the Tourmaster. All saddle bags that don't hard mount will ruin your paint so just be prepared. I don't know why they can't make them so they don't.

I just rode for 5300 miles over 2 weeks with the Tourmaster/Cortech sport saddle bags. Chicago-thunder bay-vancouver-seattle/tacoma-portland-chicago. Had the saddle bags, with stuff sack strap across them and a large joe rocket tank bag. The saddle bags performed flawlessly. They mount plenty high to avoid and heat damage and the rain covers work well too. Very easy to take on and off once adjusted right and straps are set up.

Was looking at the Cortech's too, but I want to put a high mount system on my bike soon (after I'm working fool-time again). Was looking at Givi's 438's. I think the short height and length may work better with the high mount. And they're damn sexy.

Just rode 1200 miles this week using some really jinky, no-name, bags. Kept reaching back to make sure my they were there whenever I'd start cruising 110+. Nothing like a bag blowing out at speed.

Oh here's a good question: Do you guys remove the seat cover to mount saddles? I removed mine for the trip only because I had to carry a bag of cold-weather gear too, but I was wondering for saddle only if it'd be stable keeping the hump on. Would certainly help lift the bags up a little higher.

If you want to prevent the paint damage go to www.coolcycle.com for the clear body shield material. It is clear, static stick, washable vinyl in sheets that you cut to fit the shape of your panels. I've used it on my 01 for the saddlebags and the magnetic tank bag since the bike was new and have absolutely no damage or scratches. Just make sure the surface is totally clean before applying (honda polish is great for this and actuallly helps it stick).
BTW, I have the regular Tourmaster Cortech bags and after 7 years they are just starting to show wear on the bottoms. They are great and hold a lot.
I have them mounted over the seat cowl and it does help lift tyhem up.

Oooh, will have to give that a try.

Honda Polish? That's a no-no in California. It's far too effective of a substance for us stoopid left coast people to handle.

I'm in New York which is, like, the right hand of California. It is a no-no here too but there are mail order (internet) companies that will have no problem sending you some in exchange for monetary compensation (paper or plastic!). I just got in 6 big ones and 2 baby size ones for when I go on trips.

Figured I'd just pick up a case when I'm in Vegas next.
Been using the Motul Wash'n Wax stuff in the meantime. It doesn't suck, but it's no honda polish.

I just rode my '99 VFR back from San Jose, CA to Tucson using those saddle bags. They're great, quality stuff. Careful to load each side about the same, and they didn't move on the bike at all. I liked them so well, I order the matching tail bag. The saddlebags themselves are OK volume-wise, but if you pack for cold weather or long trips, you'll need a tank bag or other tail bag.

Do those bags mount under the seat?
How easy are they to mount?
Why did you opt not to get the matching seat bag?

    Thank you

I used the TourMaster/Cortech tri-bag saddle bags in conjunction with the tri-bag tail bag because they all three clipped together making a very sturdy package. I used them for touring to grocery shopping. you would laugh at the strange looks i got from people as i stuffed in eight bags of groceries on my bike with this setup. as for protecting your paint- use the blue masking tape everyone uses to tape their lights up on track days. it comes off easy after you done with no mess, and they have rolls that are 3 inches wide.

Right and Left Coast - Honda Polish a no-no?

Why is using/selling Honda Spray cleaner polish a no-no?

Hey - I want the weird looking Bettle Bags but they are just tooo expensive for me right now. I opted to go with a pair of saddlebags that I can use on my VFR or my other bikes. I liked the Cortech and Tourmaster (also like Fieldsheer), but opted to go with the Chase Harper Stealth Series Saddlesbags. Can anyone make a good Tank Bag recommendation - I have been looking at the Icon Urban Tank Bag but I am kinda skeptical of Icon gear (had a pair of their gloves that were horrible).

I would only suggest getting waterproof saddlebag liners because the cloth bags are water resistant but not water proof.

I beleive, just in CA, due to chemical makeup being in violation of our air quality rules or something.

I have owned those saddlebags for a year. I use them daily for commuting and light touring. They are mounted on my wifes BMW R1150R, I also use a Marsee 35 liter tankbag with an old 30 liter tankbag as a tailbag. I love the saddlebags, they are built sturdy and hold the essentials you need for everyday like on a bike.

Spike is correct, on the honda polish, but it is not just in CA. It is NY and from what I was told, much or most of the Northeast. It has something to do with the propellant and air quality regs.
