So after the debacle at Longs. I decided that I would get new tires.. seeing how the ones that were on it had a little over 5000 miles on them...anyway After scrounging around the internet and looking for some deals and talking to people I settled on a set of BT45.... got them at Motorcycle super store... by the way they have a nice selection of stuff. anything over 100 bucks its free shipping..... anyway, ordered said tires, paid for said tires. got an Email from MSS stating when they would ship and when they would tenatively arrive... they were right on the money for both orders, and acctually the secondorder was a day earlier than projected.. So MSS gets my repeat businesss when it comes to that point.. Also, for some shops you would have to check, but you can order the tires from Mss and have them delivered to the shop that they name, and all you have to do is bring int he wheels/bike. No futzing around with the tires and your place of residence, and no having the tires sit on your front door step begging to be stolen.

Anyway let me get to the story... so I finally had time today to take the wheels off and get the new meats mounted.. so first off is the front I get the old wheel off and get a stand underneath so it will stay upright... well the bike slippes and the front end goes down, mind you the wheel is OFF. as it passed a certain point it slided off the center stand.... all of a sudden the bike becomes heavier than normal and she kind goes over a bit.. Well he I sit with a bike on the front forks, and back wheel....and me with no Hydraulic jack within 5.7 miles of me.so I decide to go get the tire mounted and I would worrie about it when I got back.. a quick trip to Moto Loco and bam the front tire is on and I a,m back home looking at a mess. Aquick call to TOECUTTER to ask a what should I do question.... He informs me that I screwed the pooch without a condom. The only way to get the bike up and the wheel on is gonna be to lay the bitch down on her side put the wheel on then stand her up. I am sick of having to bike that damn bike up off the ground, but if thats the only way then I will do it...I lay her down the rest of the way.. insert the wheel get the axle back in and proceed to stand her back up.. I was gonna call it quits but the back wheel was callingme , So off it came and down to Moto loco I went again (its about 1.6 miles away) handed the guy a 20 and he hooked me up with a mount, balance discard fee, and all that other shit the3y stick on for getting rid of tires... so now the ole girl has a new set of Bridgestone - Battlax BT-45V and they look good..... I did however notice that the tires that I had bought before, were smaller than what the honda book called for... a 100/90/16 on the front instead of 110/90/16 and the same with the back but I digress. I hope these tires will serve me well.....

I am surprised you didnt break anything? Or did you? I personally prefer MIchelin Road 2ct for everyday riding and wear resistance. But I know everyone hates the french..Did I mention they are made in Spain and Thailand respectively?

I'm curious to see how you like them. I need to get the 1100F road-worthy again, and the Dunlops I used to use are no longer available. The BT45's seem like a decent option.

    No disrespect intended...

I posted the article as this is a good read on the different bias-ply tires available.

did you shop tire prices at your local shop before sending your dollars across the country? You found internet to have the best price?

I just got a match set of Mich Pilot Roads, front and rear, shipped from one of the shops in Denver to my house for $200. That works out to be about the list price of a rear with the front thrown in for free.

Can't imagine the pucker factor felt when she dove off the stand. That's serious drama.

well I didn't get pictures of her with her nose in the dirt...it didn't even really cross my mind...sorry I know how you guuys like pictures..... actually didn't break anything...Amazing huh? I laid her down on a rolled up nylon tent to give her a bit of cushion....and thats pretty much all she wrote..

I just finished getting the back tire on. and took it for a scrub....... a little slick for the first trip down the hill, on the way back up she was sticking at the path that I pointed her in...The tires are by no means sufficiently scrubbed in but just the little bit that they are I can see and FEEL the difference.... one of the turns that I wouldn't have taken at 25 MPH with the old tires, the bike stuck pretty good in that corner at 20MPH I think I may have to recalig=brate my speedo too.. the correct size tires probably changed it a few MPH...I'll post up some more later on how they are handling... back to Birthday party prep...

I'm very happy with the BT45's. I have nothing to compare them to on the VF500, as they are what it came with from the PO. I have a set on the Ninja 250 also, and they are worlds better than the OE tires that were on it. Performance in the rain is really good as well. I took a 3-400 mile ride earlier this year that was about 70% in the rain, with no problems, the only hint of traction loss was over some tar snakes.

I'm not getting all that great of life out of them though. I have about 5-6 k miles on the rear on the Ninja, and it's about done. I was looking at the rear on the VF500 yesterday, and it's about halfway gone, and probably around 3-4k miles, I didn't keep track of it. The front tire on the Ninja is cupping somewhat, but it's not causing any problems, and from what I hear it's a normal thing when actually using the tire!

I'll be looking forwark to hearing how they work out for you, as I'm pretty sure you have more experience with other tires, and other bikes!

you can go as big as 140 on the back without pinching down and it handles great. used to hang with the 900rrs and drag pegs with that size tires on the roads out of Ojai when I was in school down there at UCSB.

I believe the BT45's are bias ply. Radials started to show up on bikes about 1990 or so. There might be radials with an aspect ratio greater than .70, but it isn't common.

    Crapsky,

Thank-you for the confession. Say ten hail Hailwoods and give some thought to a long and detailed article about anything else that comes to mind that is as interesting as your tires.
