Hello everyone, I love the forum so far.

I just picked up a 5th gen and have some questions:

    - Will factory hard bags from a '97 fit on my '98?
    - How complicated is installing a set of risers?
    - Is there a difference between installing risers, and installing something like helibars?

That's all for now, thanks for the help! I look forward to being able to contribute... *thumbs up*

I have the gen mar risers on my 99, they are super easy to install. They simply shim the stock clip-on bars up the fork tubes a bit. The heli-bars are a new set of clip-ons that are higher and more rearset. Theres a really good writeup with pics someone just did to their 6th gen. The install is pretty similar. If I had the money right now I'd sell my gen mar risers to you cause I want to get the helibars. As far as the cases go, I was unaware the 4th gens were available with factory cases. Some of the givi stuff can look pretty factory especially if they are painted to match. Hope this sheds some light on your new ride, enjoy it.

You're right, they are Corbin bags. Any idea if they would work?

If you can find the right mounting bracket, yes. Check out twistedthrottle.com, they sell several mounting brackets for our bikes, I know givi and SW motech makes luggage brackets.

No, if they are the Corbin 'Beetle Bags', they are model specific, due to the cut out for the exhaust pipe and body shape. Check out some Givi bags and racks for your bike.

Will do. I don't think it will be anytime soon though. If your looking for a serious rise to improve the touring abilities of your vif, the gen mar risers wont be for you. Just speaking from personal experience. At 5'7" tall my arms aren't the longest and even with the gen mar risers sometimes I feel leaned too forward and will start to feel sore from it around 175 miles or so. If your looking to do some serious miles(why wouldn't you...) Either get the helibars or the LSL bar conversion. You can find info on the LSL kits on here as well. As far as luggage is concerned I currently run a set of fieldsheer expander soft saddlebags I got from bike bandit for less than 90 bucks and a matching magnetic tank bag. They work great if your on a budget. Good luck with the bike, make sure the rectifier/regulator has been upgraded before you take it on a trip. I failed to do that and got stranded 175 miles from home. The ricks motorsport rectifier and VFRness main harness upgrade is 180 bucks worth of insurance from wiremybike.com I've put close to 2k miles on mine in the last month or so without any charging system issues.
