my 86 amateur restoration is going well.

But the turn signal switch just feels sticky, and it takes quite a push to press it in and turn the signal off.

The redneck repairman in me says to just spray some WD40 in there, any ideas?

don't spray it with WD40.... take it apart and clean the contacts.... then use something other than WD40...

It can be removed and cleaned. You must be careful as there are springs and contact that will want to pop oot but it not difficult and will work like a charm after cleaned and lubricated.

My first ride, a 1975 kz400 had the same problems with the turn signal and the headlight switch being very stiff. I took the assembly apart and cleaned it as best I could as crusty rider suggested. I then wanted a way to lubricate it that would not put something greasy between the contacts. I decided I would use some teflon based cable lube for mountain bikes I had laying around cause it dries fully. I thoroughly lubed both switches and they were much easier to use for the 3k miles I put on the bike before I sold it. Never had any problems with the function of the switches due to the lube. Try a dry lube like the new PB blaster dry lube thats out, or a teflon based stuff like a lock lubricant or something. Should fix her right up.

Okay thanks guys I will prob take it apart tomorrow. I have a service manual so should be no big deal so long as I finish within ten beers. Then, the work gets interesting.

I found that if I wait till after I ride to stretch the old johnson, then nothing on my bike gets sticky.
