I am piecing a swing arm together for a 900rr project. I just bought a 96 swingarm without a rear axle and was wondering if the rear axle from an 800 will work in the 750 swingarm? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry to say that it will not work. The bearing holder and axle are different between the 3rd/4th gens and the 5th/6th gens. Ever so slightly. The 5th/6th gen's bearing holder is larger in diamter as is the axle itself.

So it only works if he swaps out the whole eccentric? I know they are interchangeable, but we've only swapped the whole unit.

    bmiller,

Just wondering what you meant when you said you "swapped the whole unit". Do you mean put a 800 axle and 800 drive hub through a 750 swingarm and 750 bearing holder? Sa1713 wrote me and said that the bearing hubs were different but the main roller bearing size was the same. He thought the the axle on the 800 was longer. If the main bearings are the same, then if I use the axle and hub off the 800 I should be ok right? Thanks for your help.

I just got the vfr800 axle and hub today and the answer to my questions is YES it will work. You can put a vfr800 axle and hub on a 750 swingarm. Thanks Bmiller.

The Japanese motorcycles marketing and engineering is based on the USA system.

Every year new models or changes to the model. Just like US cars.
Many parts only fit certain models, and the only interchangeable parts are within same size models based on cc's. Part of the American "COWBOY ECONOMY " thinking.
Then a new year comes and there are all new models and you cannot get serious engine parts anymore.

The exception in America is Harley Davidson. They ALL have 3/4 inch axles or Choppers may have 1 inch diameter axles. Just different lengths.
MAny HD parts interchange and all parts ,including crankshafts etc., are available from a number of sources. Very GREEN. You can literally build a 1948 HD right now and get ALL the parts if you want to.

I have worked on both kinds of motorcycles but I am learning WHY the HD is so popular.
You do not have to go to a dealer and hear, "Sorry, that part has been discontinued."
