    Ok, so I'm doing my Honda training in class and I had to watch a video that covered - in depth - the 2010 VFR1200. I was skimming through most of the videos and using the CC button to bring up the text so I could speed through the tests and get it over with... until I got to this part.

    The 2010 VFR1200 is hands down the most technologically advanced, aggressively designed and built for the rider sport-touring bike on the market today. This isn't what was said on the video, or something that I heard someone say in a commercial... this is simply my own personal opinion after having seen this thing from the inside out. Learning how the new engine design is set up, how the transmissions operate, and all of the new features that are available on the VFR that aren't on ANY other bike that Honda produces... I used to say that someday I was gonna buy a Gold Wing GPS cause it was the best one out there...

    ... screw the Gold Wings!!! LOL

    I'll have to see if I can post a video for you guys to show you what she looks like from a mechanics point of view. I know that most of you have had issues with the new Gen 7's here and there, and not knowing what it is that you're dealing with makes it a challenge to do self services. Maybe if I can show you what the mechanics are seeing, it'll help give you guys a better idea of what you are riding, too!

    Whatcha think? Should I post it???

    I don't wanna get in trouble over it either, but it was damn good info that I really think that anyone that owns one should have access to. Shit, you're paying $16k for a bike, whats the difference between having a mechanic tell you how it works and seeing it in a video made by the manufacturer?

    I got all ready to set it up and record it and then my computer inherited some stupid virus that screwed my .dll library and is trying to say that my copy of Windows needs to be activated (which it already was). Now it won't go past the Startup Screen...
    :mad:

    and unfortunately, my tower was my only access to the Honda videos outside of school. My girlfriends laptop isn't set up for it, so until get the tower reinstalled with a fresh OS....

    But I will post the video. Keep your eyes out for awesomeness!

    Lazy in AZ,

    Can you get your hands on Honda's camshaft data for the VFR1200F model? Valve lift and opening/closing events for inlet and exhaust. Advertised duration of the opening/closing events of both sides as well.

    That info has been provided for the CBR's however, so far i've been unable to locate this info for the new beast . It will give me something to ponder upon if you can.

    As NCB said - hope you didn't sign some confidentiality agreement with regard to duplicating school materials. No need to get yourself into a world of shit over some video if someone decides to get pissy.

    sorry that I haven't been able to do the video as of yet... My PC took a major crap and I figured out why...

    In order to view Honda's videos and training material you have to have your PC set to accept all ActiveX controls and enable Scripting while making www.honda.com a trusted site. Then you have to download an add-on for IE8 that allows them to control the environment for test taking purposes. All was done and went well... until I downloaded some files on Limewire for my girlfriend that contained a malicious .exe file that slipped right through my security system. I had forgotten to change the settings back to protected before venturing from the safety of Honda and into the wild expanses of the Information Superhighway...

    So, the PC is dead, and my laptop is toast from an incident last year. I'm having the laptop reset to factory and either Vista or 7 installed on it (not sure if it can handle 7), which may take about a week for my buddy to be able to get to it for me. I've got a 250 GB hard drive on it's way in the mail that I'm going to replace the 80GB dead drive in my PC with, and then do a fresh install on it as well. So, I won't have at home access to Honda's site for a bit.

    to Mountainmotor: yeah, I'll look that up and see what I can find out for ya. We have all of the warranty bikes' manuals in our mainframe, but can only print them out page by page @ one per minute intervals... makes free copying a hassle if you need a full section, but at least you have access (and honestly, my phone takes some damn good pics and can print out via bluetooth, so....)

    as for the confidentiality thing.... we signed one at the beginning of Theory stating that we wouldn't reproduce anything MMI, UTI copyrighted... nothing was mentioned about Honda or any other manufacturer. The onle thing I was concerned with was wether Honda deemed the tech specs on the '10 VFR1200 as something only for those employed by them... which obviously that's not so since myself and the 38 other guys in HonTech have access to it too.

    I'll get the video up as soon as I am able to. I'm using her laptop right now and there is no way in hell I'm gonna play with her settings and mess up her system.

    OK, so I had a friend bump my laptop back into working condition and am back online. I'm still running it through the motions to get it functional for the sites I frequent... so it'll be a few days maybe till I get it set up for my class stuff. My buddy is gonna get the video and post it on another site, so when he does I'll link it for ya's.

    till then.......

    Hell yeah, bumpity bump bump, make me a 7th gen beliver. I do tons of training for GM and I know exactly what you're doing with all that online testing BS. I'd love to see one of those inside out walk you through every little bit videos on something other than some new GM POS!!

    *sigh*

    Ok, my buddy has failed to produce... so I managed to configure my laptop to be able to access the training videos. I then set up my girlfriends camera on the tripod and began recording the VFR1200 info.

    At first all was well, except that I couldn't figure out how to keep it from auto-focusing each time there was a pause between topics. It didn't help that Honda set it up where it blurrs into focus at the opening of each new topic which really set off the camera. Then, as the video dragged along I remembered that there was a 20 minute limit on videos for uploading... we were already at 18:20 and only 75% through the topics. Without fail (or with much fail depending on how you look at it) the card on her phone ran out of space and it stopped recording after like 21 mins.

    So, I went and grabbed my old camera to do the same thing, but although my card has plenty of room for a 45+ minute video (only should need 25 of that) the batteries were toast and we have none in the house.

    I'll take a run to the store in a little bit and see how it records on my old Kodak. Would have been nice on her Sony cause it's 10 MP and does HD... mines onmly 5 MP but I've got double the amount of memory that she does (and their not compatible).

    I haven't given up... still trying....

    and I haven't forgotten about you either, mountain. I'll see if I can pull that info up for you.....

    Camshaft valve clearances for the VFR1200:

    Intake --> 0.16 mm +/- 0.03 mm (0.006" +/- 0.001")

    Exhaust
    *Valve Side --> 0.30 mm +/- 0.02 mm (0.012" +/- 0.001")
    *Roller Side --> 0.21 mm +/- 0.02 mm (0.008" +/- 0.001")

    Hope this helps

    ====================================================================

    I've been having technical difficulties on my side getting this thing recorded and trimmed enough to be able to upload it. YouTube sucks, and Facebook has been having glitches. Anyone have an idea on where a good place to post and store a 24 minute video is?
