Without fail. I wear mine each and every time I ride. One exception is when I come home and get off the bike to open the garage door. I take the helmet off and drive the bike 10 feet into the garage. I had a bad experience with a bicycle a number of years back. Fortunately just about 15 minutes before that experience, I put my helmet back on. I am not the slightest bit confident I would be here right now if I had not put the helmet back on.

Now make no mistake, I would love to ride down the highway without the helmet and all the gear on a warm summer night. But the gear is for my safety, and the laws are for those who refuse to accept their benefits, or in the true sense of the word, are too ignorant to know better.

And yes. There is a huge cost factor involved to the tax payer when a collision turns from injury to fatal. Private insurance and private funds do not cover the cost of the mountains of work, investigation by several different agencies and the administration of everything that comes with it.

I don't think the "My right to choose" arguement will ever be won one way or the other in just about any debate.

Just so you know, in the UFRR, you have no say. This is not a democracy. I am the dictator.

All I know is I went down for the first time 3 weeks ago and I was thankful for every piece of gear I had on. It was the difference between going to the hospital and going home.
When I lived in Hawaii I would ride down to the beach all the time without my helmet and it was great felling the warm ocean breeze on my face but after being down I'll never ride without a helmet again.

I wear mine all the time. In Canada with universal health care I think we all have a say, as this kind of stupidity directly affects us all. Recently a lady in our town died while bike riding at a walking pace and hit a dog, she had no helmet. "My right to choose"? I don't buy it. Here in BC if you are in an accident of any kind regardless of fault, if you are not wearing a seatbelt, your insurance is reduced because you did not do your part to protect yourself. A the very least the same should be true of M/C PPE, if you weren't wearing it you weren't trying to protect yourself, your benefits should be reduced. I think this still does justice to Democracy and freedom; if you're free to be stupid, then I should be free not to have to pay for your stupidity.

I crashed a dirt bike at around 50mph and went face first into the dirt. If I did not have a helmet on I would have been dead. I will always wear a helmet! As long as society has to pick up the medical bills for the disabled there will have to be safety regulations in place. I'm also better looking with a helmet on!

Acording to snell research face first is one of the higher percentage places to contact during an accident.

a local bike guru that I go to a lot was telling me that lots of cruisers around here are buying novelty helmets and sticking a fake DOT sticker on them. Cops are catching on...

It stops where there is no money to be made. a guy recently, here in michigan, bumped the seat belt reaching for a flashlight, and emedioutly put it back on. the police have record (all of hte cameras they have been puttin up here lately) that he had the seat belt off for less than a full second. he still had to pay a fine.

after all, someone has to fund the tax money that pays for granhoms multimillion dollar vacation home.

screw you jerk. go fornicate yourself with a rubber chicken and crap out little rubber eggs for a week.

oh, and i do agree with the law that requires eye covering above 35 mph. if you cannot see you cannot drive well, that does effect other people.

I will ride around my neighborhood. thats pretty much it. i live 2 blocks from a store. thats the furthest i will go without one, no matter what the law states.

i got caught doing this once, but i got home before the cop got here. i rushed in the house and went deep inside. he stood there knocking for some 20 minutes or more till my wife got home. i didnt get a ticket or anything.

I think it helps if you were a child in the time period long before the law or the mind frame of such things. I rode on the back of Harleys at three holding a bottle of wine. Try to understand where I come from before throwing the stones.
