ok so am doing new clutches and steels on my bike. im using ebc kevlar clutches with harder springs because i want more of a grab. but i got a big question. i would like to run synthetic oil but i was told with this bike its not recomended because it will cause slippage of the clutches. does anyone have and ideas or tips. thanks in advanced.

There about a million and one oil threads on this site alone that deal with the great oil debate. Pop some corn, get a soda an stay in for the evening and read through them. You will find it is mostly opinion based on some sort of fact somewhere. There will be some truth in there you just have to wade in and find it.

Basically to answer your question, our bikes use the engine oil to lubricate the engine and share this lubrication with the clutch. It isn't the oil that Can cause the issue with the clutch but the additives in the oil. On the rear of the oil container you should find an API lable it is a circle. If is states in the bottom half of the circle "Energy Conserving" then you should probably stay away from it. Molybdenum is one one of the additives if not the major one of concern with wet clutches.

All oil has its additive package. The intended use dictates how much and which additives are added to a specific oil. Diesel, gas engine, motorcycle or heavy truck etc.

So your problem isnt synthetic vs dino.

I will say,,, with my new truck that dio oil seems to loose its effectiveness after about 2k miles and my gas mileage goes down.

if we'd televise the debates, then we'd really be able to know who won.

I would not give it another thought and run your new clutch in the oil of your choice. You will be fine.

    Sounds reasonable enough.

    /debate

But if the debate were televised, you'd see TOE sweating his ass off under the lights.

Not part of this debate but with 27K miles on my '99 went from Motul Moto 5100 Semi Synthetic oil to a same priced FUCHS Silkolene Moto full Synthetic Comp 4 and even though only had 2500miles on the Motul was supprised how much smoother my VFRs engine felt on the Fuchs Synthetic on a recent road trip though not sure if all Synthetic moto oils feel immediately smoother than Semi Synthetic.

    Any opinions ?
