What a surprise to receive a birthday greeting from VFRWorld. Another year and deeper in debt. Although I havnt lost my faculties yet, Ive taken steps to make sure that I dont and have gone and paid for my first ever track day. I figured that if I didnt do it now I never would and while being a little apprehensive, am still pretty excited to see how well I will cope with being on a race track. I would appreciate any advise from others who have done similar re setting head space and bike set up. The track I am riding on is called "Manfeild" and is just out side Plamerston North here in New Zealand. It would also be interesting to hear from other over 50s who have done this and how they coped with the track and riding with much younger "competition". Will I need incontinance pads and valium.? Ive heard you should never look at your speedometer!

Congrats on making it 5 decades keeping the rubber side down!

No racing experience to offer on my part, but speedometer cables are usually removed for track duty.

    Incontinance pads are optional

Hi fibre the night before and set a good spell on the john just before you go to the track. We don't want you dropping any of thet greasey stuff on the track now.

Why in the world would you remove your speedometer cables? Never done it, never seen anyone do it.

If it is a track only bike, and you want to shave every once, sure. But street bike that you do an occassional track day on; uhh why?

It was a comment that I had heard/read some time ago. I am guessing that the disablement of the speedo is not for weight reasons but to remove a possible distraction, that of trying to see how fast you can go rather than concentrating on actually staying on the track. So, I am still none the wiser, leave it or cover it?

Apply the acronym . . . KISS. Just put tape over the speedometer.
    Carry on ~
