Concerned? No. Cash in on this condition. Call the tabloids & get PAID. After that, become a pro wrestler. Pat on the back for being proactive with your health.

I am not a fan of Christmas as it is. I am not religious, but I do know what Christmas is suppossed to be. What it is, is a commercialized mess. If you insist on doing the whole Santa thing, I would lean toward gifts that have an educational edge to them. Think LEGO's. Fun, fun, fun & they get the mind working. Kids have good imaginations. Stuff like LEGO's makes them exercise their imagination.

Agreed. I grew up on legos, and now I'm an engineer. Go figure.

There is NOTHING worse than a parent that will let their child waste away watching TV or playing video games non-stop. Children's brains are a sponge. You can entertain the hell out of them & teach them something at the same time. LEGO's, Lincoln Logs, Erector Sets, etc... that's the stuff imaginations are made from. I grew up poor so I guess I have a skewed view of reality.

Eight kids in my family when I was growing up, and not much money. It took four Christmases to acquire a Lincoln Logs set, an American Flyer train set, an Erector Set, a Fort Apache set, a Chemistry Set, and an Electrical Experiments kit. I was one happy and grateful kid, and thought I had it all. Looking back, I did. Among many other things, I learned to make bombs, rockets, and booby traps, which some day may again come in handy.

Apparently, you are not familiar with the draconian gun laws in NJ. I can't buy a gun without a background check for EACH & EVERY handgun. Each background check is $20 & takes 4-6 weeks. You're on your own with this one.

I'm on a cigar, beer & apple turnover bender. Somebody ask me something before it wears off.

KC - let's talk about rider position on the VFR going through high speed cornering and turns. I always read about keeping the head up and the body low on the bike and I've read a few posts in the past week talking about different opinions on position through turns.
What the best way to handle the turns on a VFR?

Web posts aren't the easiest way to convey riding advice. If you're looking for body positioning advice, the best way to start is to watch a race that has Valentino in it. Watch how the riders move on the bike. That's (hopefully) your end result.

As far as friendly advice on VFRWorld, I would say start slowly. Ride a route or road you're very familiar with. When you approach a familiar turn, start SLOWLY inching your butt to the inside of the turn. As you progress, it will become like second nature. When I teach Sport Bikes, I tell the riders that your target is to be hanging completely off the bike looking over your inside arm over the top of your mirror. This activity doesn't lend itself to simple verbal teaching. You simply need to try it. The way you know you're at the farthest you can get off the bike is if your outside arm is at full lock & you're holding on with your leg & your heel is digging into the heel guard.

You should also know it is almost NEVER necessary to do this on the street. In fact, doing this on the street can lead one to over-riding your bike or abilities. The only time this kind of riding on the street is necessary is to save your bacon when you screw up & you are going to eat it large in a turn. After I learned to really ride a sport bike like it was intended, I found that I was a much safer rider. Safer you ask? That's right, I am now confident that I could pull a save out of my butt if need be.

I will finish by saying I universally recommend getting on a track with a school of some sort.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I find the throttle on my '00 VFR to be extremely sensitive, particularly at low RPMs and speed. This said, the other night I parked with my back tire in a bit of sediment. The first turn I took when leaving, the bike lost traction and got squirrely on me. Against all my instincts to let off the gas and / or get on the brakes, I rolled on the throttle through the turn until the back tire hooked up again and I was going in a straight line.

I didn't lay it down, so I am inclined to think I did the right thing. Your opinion?

    KC,

You have always been pretty direct and honest with your opinion AFAIK.

After a track yesterday, I have had a numb foot for a day. (usually indicative of some nerve compression) I have a dead engine on my 95 chevy tahoe which was towing the 3 bikes+3000 lb rated trailer ( a reasonable weight for a chevy 350 IMO) I'm guessing this will cost me at least $2500 on the truck and then there are the medical bills.

Would you take this as a sign to stop riding?

I have actually considered selling my track and/or street or dirtbike to pay for the truck and just give it all up. I don't want to, but on the other hand, it is not very fun to trip several times because you can no longer feel your foot. Sorry if I'm coming off whiny. Just kind of bummed out I guess.

sorry, last message didn't elaborate. apparently the extra weight of a trailer plus the 100+ temps and steep grades out here killed my tahoe on the way back from the track. I'm not gonna get into what might or might not have prevented it, but where I am now is at the point where those who understand engines far better than I say I need to just replace mine. :(
