Cruise control

Has anybody mounted a cruise control yet? I tried a Vista Cruise off my RC 51 and it doesnt fit. I was wondering if anyone has come up with an alternative or tried a Throttlemeister? I hate to use a Throttlemeister but it may be the only workable solution for those 500 mile days that Ill be doing on my upcoming tour.

Short of a "real" (read: electronic) cruise control I find Throttlemeister top shelf stuff, why would you "hate" to be forced into using them?

 

I've had great luck with a Throttlemeister on my Gen 6. I'll probably put one on the Gen 7 as well.

I guess its because I have 2 vista cruises, one on my RC 51 and 1 on my Superhawk and they are easy to use and have always worked great and they are cheap. Ive never had a throttlemeister but I have heard others complain about them. I also find the throttlemeister to be a little pricey, but if that is what it takes to have a throttle lock on the VFR 1200 Ill get one. Ill take your and skivfr1 recommendation for a Throttlemeister and order one. It is useful to be able to rest the wrist on a long ride, especially as the week goes by.

Throttlemiester makes two models. The best one has notches cut in it that make it very easy to use with only right hand. Top quality stuff !

 

I agree with the others that the throttlemeister is a great unit. My 6th gen came with it preinstalled and I love it. Don't get to use it too often for theplaces that I ride but it does come in quite handy.

 

I wound up using a NEP throttle lock. I had to grind it down a bit but it works great and only cost $20. The Vista cruise is substantially thicker and wouldn't work. I looked at the
Throttlemeister but they cost ~$150 and Ive heard both pros and cons so I decided to stick with what Im used to. Im going to ride from Midland Texas through all of Colo and back soon so I needed something that would rest my throttle hand.

I put a Throttle Meister on my new gen 7 and it holds the throttle grip perfectly. The problem I'm finding, however, is that the drive-by-wire mapping really wants to 'hunt'. By hunting, I means the thing will not hold a steady speed!! It will hold for about 30 seconds and then it either accelerates or decelerates! WTF ?? Anybody else experiencing this ? :frusty:

 

I just returned from a 2100 mile trip to Arkansas and when the roads are flat and there is no wind I could lock the throttle for 5 to 10 min at 80 mph and it would stay there. I was amazed at how steady it was. Of course when it was hilly or windy I would have to make slight adjustments but it would loose speed gradually going up a hill or gain it gradually going down. Really was useful on a days over 400 miles when the right wrist gets tired.
Maybe you dont have enough miles on it yet? I have about 5800.

 

Thanks !! I've got about 2300 miles on mine. All the riding I've done around here has been 60-65 mph and lots of terrain changes. I hope to take a long trip with 'er next week.
