Hey all, been away for awhile but have been working on the suspension for my 5th Gen. I am about to add a 929 rear shock to replace my worn out stocker. One of the features I would really like is a remote preload adjuster, sadly that doesn't seem to be an option unless I go with a Ohlins shock which is more than I can afford. :(

Has anyone done any investigation to see if you could add a remote preload adjustment to the 929 shock? I would think that is should be possible using a adjustment mechanism from a BMW shock or something similar and manufacturing some sort of adapter for it. Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

    Thanks,

    Steve

It's possible to take the remote preload adjuster from the VFR800 shock and fit it to the 929 shock. It takes a little work, but it's not too bad. The only downside I've found is that the VFR adjuster does not offer a whole lot of range. For most riders that's not a big deal as they set-it-and-forget-it, but if your needs vary greatly (passenger sometimes, some track time, etc) then it might be an issue.

Thanks Jamie!! I completely spaced that the 800 Vtecs ABS have the remote preload!!! How much of a hassle is it to get it added to the 929? Does it have enough range for standard setting (maybe a little firmer than stock) and two up with another 130lbs?

And BTW thanks for the quote! I'm going to try the 929 with the stock spring for now and if it doesn't work out well enough I'll ship it off to you for your magic :) But do you sell just the upper mounting bracket for the 929 conversion? That would be a big help if you did, cut back on the down time quite a bit!l

    Thanks!!

It would likely require a 5" long spring to be used, but those are commonly availalbe so it would not be a problem. The adjustment range would be ok, but don't expect to be able to dial it in perfectly with a passenger. It's tough to do that anyway. I'd suggest you go with just a bit higher rate than you would use for your weight alone. That way it will still be ok with just you and should be fine dialed-up with a passenger.

How did that stock 929 spring work out for you and what's your weight?

Sorry I haven't gotten to it yet, been way to involved with the track, took a spill and wanged up my wrist and ankle which kept me from it, plus had a bunch of stuff to get dialed in on the 1000rr so have been working on that pretty much non stop. Hopefully I'll get to it pretty soon, just have a couple more events this year so won't have an excuse after Sept. Just as an FYI though, I'm at 205 for weight.

thanks for the response - I went ahead and beat ya to it. Installed the 929 last night and put 100 miles on it today. I'm 230lbs. Maxed the preload and ran both valves 1/2 turn out from seated. Huge change from stock. I may need to do more adjusting to get the thing dialed in for me but I'm very happy with it so far.
