Yes, I'll take a picture when I get home. I do have the stock oil pan (never knew before there was a difference between years) and the clearance is about what is shown in the picture you sourced from the Web. I did attach mine to the bottom of the oil pan with the two points provided, it looks like the person who did that one didn't quite have it lined up right. And their muffler sits a lot lower than mine.

Oops forgot, yes it looks like they cut their chin cowling back. I only did mine around the pipe where it needed it but I guess that person wanted a symmetrical look for theirs.

Thank you for the post. I did notice the mounting points - I was wondering what this was about, thanks for clarifying.

Look forward to seeing the photos of your install.

Hmm, I've got a yoshi 4 -2 that still has the collector box. I'll get on those pictures now. Also I have a kerker 4 - 2 that bypasses the collector box.

Kerker - anyone know how much this would go for on ebay if it was in great shape?

Dont know the exact value, but assuming that is only surface rust I would think that a good wire wheeling and some paint would be worth the time. In their current condition, I might start an auction around $50 maybe put a buy-it now around $200-225. Fix them up and I would think you could make the minimum much higher with no buy-out.

Thank you for posting the photos.

The Kerker looks to be a 4-2 system. I'll add this to the list above.

The Yoshiumura's, in the photo, are a slip-on system using the stock collector box. Slip-ons are the third choice aftermarket option, IMO. They rob power and require re-jetting to get back to stock HP numbers.

4-1 systems are the first choice in exhaust systems, for the VF500F. These are followed by the 4-2's - which are a distant second.

A shout out to Jamie D. for the tech information on this.

    Thank you for the post.

From my research, the Hindle has two mounting points that connect to the underside of the oil pan.

I'm wondering if they issued two versions of this system - one for the '84/'85 and one for the '86. The '86 has a deeper oil pan which requires longer header pipes.

    Yoshimura 4-2 Update

Well...it doesn't look like there are enough interested owners out there for a 4-2 Yoshimura re-issue - so I think this idea is a non-flier. The sign-up list was pretty bleak.

The research on VF500F aftermarket exhaust systems has been interesting though and I am glad that I had a chance to gather up all the information.

On this note a shout out to Jamie D. for his insight into the pros and cons of these systems.

I do have an email out to the tech an Yoshimura regarding their 4-1 system (only released in Japan) and will post a note on this when I hear back.

    Thx!

A new addition to the aftermarket (back in the day) exhaust options for the VF500F - a system from MAC - from a recent auction on eBay:

    fwiw,

In 84 & 85 I raced a VF500 that had a Supertrapp system on it. It was one of their "Equal Length" V4 systems. The EL series were 4-2 and the mufflers were at different spots due to the rear head pipes not being swirled around as much as some of the other brands. On my VF500 the right muffler was a good 6 to 8 inches farther back than the left one.

Is that Mac system an OE equivalent or a performance system?
