Hello! Just purchased my first VFR, a 96 with 6800 miles. This is my first sport bike and only second bike in 20 years. I've always wanted a VFR since around 1990 but it just never materialized. Now I've got one and I will probably only drive it a couple of times. Please don't send me messages about what I am going to do with this cycle. I have had a project going for about 3-4 months and it involves using a Honda V4 in a 1960's 3 wheel golf cart. The power and the sound of the VFR 750 motors is just too awsome, and living in VA I'm too old to be riding and risking my life around the idiot drivers here who don't see or care about motorcycles. The bike was a bargain, and I will be parting out any pieces I don't use and I will always kick myself for not having kept it, but the heart of the VFR will live for many years on our island as the fastest Westinghouse golf cart ever!
I will have to get it running first, just smelled the gas in the tank and it is OLD! Carbs are leaking and the clutch needs fluid. Otherwise it was the best 800.00 I've ever spent! I know you guys love these bikes, I do too, but I have to scratch a different itch and this was cheaper than piecing out parts from ebay. I will make sure that any left over parts go to deserving homes to keep our favorite Hondas on the road.
ray2: How about this; Make it run, sell for $2500. Then you can buy yourself 3 motors off fleabay from the profit alone? Don't kill a yellow viffer!!!
Body parts If you are taking the v4 out for the golf cart, what are you doing with the bike? I'm looking for parts to fix my 96. Please let me know.
New to the VFRWorld I am a "newbie" to the VFR world. I purchased my 2000 Honda VFR800fi in pearl yellow a couple of months ago. Here is my story and I'm sticking to it: I am currently the owner of a 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide, however a few months back, I thought about getting a sport touring bike. Unfortunately, I am still making payment on the Harley, but the sport bikes were out of my financial reach. I finally decided that if I found the right sport bike, then it had to be the right price and the right color----yellow! Well, I just happened to live up the street from Florida Motor sports and pass by their store everyday. One day while passing by the their store, I noticed a bright yellow sport bike, but I had no clue it was a VFR. In my excitement, I turned the car around and looked at the bike. It is 2000 Honda VFR800fi in pearl yellow with 23,700 miles. The bike was on consignment and the owner wanted $3,990. I am now the proud owner of this bike and I love to ride it! Sadly, my harley Davidson Dyna is being neglected since I have gotten the VFR!
Plans are to part out frame, swingarm, sub-frame, wheels (black), tank, fairings, seat and forks. I will post here in the classifieds as I get parts off and ready to ship. If someone is interested in the rolling chassis minus engine and electrical, we could make a deal. This was a one owner bike with 6890 miles. I'm keeping the motor, carbs, gauges and all electrical wiring for my project. These parts are not negotiable.
Got a little more teardown time yesterday. I got all the wiring out of the hooks and hangers now I only need to remove the chain, drain the radiator and the oil cooler and I'll be ready to drop the motor. The carbs are waiting on the rebuild kit and the golf cart is getting the dremel treatment on a bunch of rusty nuts. I figure about 2 months of spare time and I should have it bolted together and ready to run.
Here is the work in progress. I'm sorry to take such a sweet bike and do this, but I can't help myself... Westinghouse: Resurrection - Page 5 Westinghouse: Resurrection - Page 5 I'm not sure if you have to join to see the pics, if so, I'll try to find my photobucket account and post them here.
