My bike is pretty much sold. Giving to a good friend of mine for cheap. A good bike for him to start out on. I'm gonna spend some time and $$ on making sure all the niggly-bits are taken care of.

Anyways. I went to see an 86 VFR750F the other day:

It has 41,000kms (26,000miles) on it. Needs a Clutch Lever and Battery to make it road worthy. Maybe a rear tire.

It needs a battery. The owner hooked it up to his truck and started it up. Sounds good. Very quiet engine. It could probably use a carb synch but it seems to run fine without it.
Forks are in good shape, as are the brakes.

Rear shock has a Knob that you can turn on it. Looks like my F2 shock but with a red spring. (Don't know if that's stock)

It's been sitting for a bit and it's cosmetically not in great shape. Cracks in the fairings here and there.
Tank looks rust free (from what I could see)

Also all the coating on the motor parts (That goldish/burgundy color) is flaking off. What's that all about?

Owner is throwing in wolf exhaust, progressive Fork Springs plus a ton of spare parts.

He's asking $2,000 but I'm pretty sure he knows he ain't getting that much for it.

Thoughts, comments, any thing regarding the 2nd Gen VFR and this possible buy is welcome
    Please and thanks.

Yep, should be black and clear with a ball to tell you how hard or soft to set your preload.

Center stand was a factory option on gen 2, would think as described 2000 is a bit much to ask for it but as tink said it photographs well.

    Good to know. Thank you.

Yes. As I have mentioned before, prices up here are much higher than they should be. :frown:

I wouldn't give him $2,000 for it though.....not with all the cosmetic issues.

Oh! Yes....I thought you meant you "made" me a sig.

I was thinking that also. Problem is, most of the ones that pop up for a decent price have high mileage. (here in Canada)

I also like the look of the 2nd gen....plus it's lighter than the 3rd gen

I think you'd be happier with a modern bike.

Well...I would LOVE to have a VFR800. Only cause it's FI.

But I'm not really looking for a "modern" bike. Unless Modern means: Won't eat cams, won't drop valves etc etc

The Gen 2 750 will serve you just fine as long as the engine hasn't been grenaded or raced.
You will get lots of happy miles out of it if you get it.
Gen 3's are way heavier, stick with the Gen 2, FI is overrated.

Thanks for the input. I think with only 41k km's it shoudl be in good mechanical shape. As I said....the engine sounded good.

The Gen 3's are way heavier? Really. Hmmm. I'm not a big guy at all.(5'9" 150lbs)...maybe a Gen 2 is more my fit?

I have been eying that bike for a while. I saw it online again last night and thought of you because of the sellers location. Too bad it isn't as pretty as the pics. I love the look of the Gen 2's. The colours are awesome. They didn't look that good again until the 07 anniversary edition came out. Go for it!

I think its a myth myself.......Cant get any rock solid info on a "kit".....Just here is what I was told to do shit.....Love to see one put together...LOL Did not realize it was such a secret!! My new 750 has had a hurricane wheel installed at some point so I think I will just throw some radials on and redo the suspension/ brakes...... Any positive info will be greatly appreciated on that swap (the thread just covers the rear only..nothing on front)....I can get the spacers only for the rear but the front??? i was informed by Daugherty that the front needs a complete swap.

The cbr600F2/F3 conversion is real. HONDAVFR.ORG explains both in detail. but its a little outdated so here are the steps...can post pics later today...

Get your hands on a FULL front end from a CBR600F2/F3(triples, forks, wheel, spacer, axle, fairing, etc, etc) Objective is to get more modern feel in suspension. 91-93 cbr600 is dampening rod technology(older), 94 is cartidge technology(better), F3 is cartridge and more modern(BEST - only drawback, no speedo(91-94 has speedo that matches VFR)...91-93 dampening rod forks can be rebuilt with Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators which makes dampening rod act like cartridge...kinda, well close enough..

Find some one who can take VFR steering stem out of triples and put into CBR600F2/F3 triples. get new bearing races and tapered roller "thingys" from ALL BALLS(ebay), pack with GREASE install...OH before you do that, grind down STEERING STOPS from lower CBR Triple and tap and drill for 2 6mm bolt on either side to act as NEW steering stops. NOW INSTALL dont make to tight cause tapered rolling thingys dont need as much torque pressure. At this point rebuild forks, depending on year...You can add GVE and a Stiffer Spring...Racetech is great kinda pricey, Sonic Springs work...if you are a little worried or dont have tools you can have someone rebuild for you. (Make sure to get springs for YOUR weight and riding style)Install Forks...then Tire, Axle, Fairing etc, brakes blah blah blah...go for a test ride. come back and tweak accordingly. Dont forget the LocTite...

    Thats the front End...

and to think i didnt know anything about bikes before...THANKS VFRWORLD!!!

    AND GOOD LUCK WITH PURCHASE
