    LOL.....hottest (i.e. most posts :p)

To summarize the thread in point form:

-Purchased Daugherty Motorsports (DMr) F2 Rear wheel Kit from another member. (Came with Wheel and tire)
-160 tire was too wide for Swingarm. Installed a 150
-Kit wouldn't fit in swingarm. Discussions began.
    -Kit eventually fit into swingarm
-Center stand rubs tire. Need to remove it
-Smaller rear tire changed gearing. (Ordered a 16T Front Sprocket)
-Rear brakes wouldn't work. Need to swap spacers
-Swapped spacers, now rotor rubs bracket
-Swingarm tab hypothesized to be the issue
-Measured tab. Concluded 0.2 inches would need to be removed from Kit or from Swingarm tab to make things fit.
-Jamie request kit to be sent to him.
    -Sent kit to Jamie.
-Jamie says kit fits his bike fine. Modified it slightly and sent it back.
-Received kit from Jamie and tried to install it. Same difficulties.
-Gave in and grinded down swingarm enough to install kit.
-150 tire rubbed swingarm. Wheel too far "in" the swingarm
-Installed smaller rear sprocket to move rear wheel further back.
-Everything fits but the Axle nut cannot be torqued fully. (torque it as close as I can)
    -Ride bike home from storage
-Rear brake pads don't touch rotor fully. (designed that way)
-Rear caliper bolt goes through DMr caliper bracket and rubs rotor.
-Ground down swingarm tab more. Can torque Axle bolt closer to spec now.
-Moose comes by with his VF500. Kit doesn't fit his bike either.
-Problem wasn't my bike all along. Kit doesn't fit.

    Am I missing anything?

I can see after reading down this list how it would be a bit frustrating dealing with this F2 conversion - too many issues/gremlins.

I read, on the list above, that you can torque the axle bolt 'closer to spec'. Is this still not torqued to spec - when it is torqued correctly does this cause the wheel to bind?

The extra length of the stub on the swing-arm (Relative to the swing arm that DMr prototyped on), pushes one end (stub end) of the caliper bracket in towards the wheel (because there is not enough depth in the bracket "slot" that captures the stub) But the other end of the bracket (axel end) is constrained by the spacers.

This twists the bracket (relative to the axel), causing the bracket to bind on the axel and put alot of pressure on the bearing faces when the nut is tightened down as it is not "floating" but being constained perpendicular to axels rotation axis.

Thank you for the clarification. On this note - I'd take a look at removing some material from the back of the machined slot on the caliper carrier. The axle nut should be torqued to spec!

After removing more material (the day Moose came by) I was finally able to torque the Axle down to the minimum Torque spec without the wheel feeling "too-tight" when I'd spin it by hand on a stand.

Before I was about 10 ft-lbs less than spec and the rear wheel wouldn't spin very freely by hand.

I forgot what the Technical manual says the torque setting is for "After 85" but I picked the lowest number it showed....tried that and it was ok.

    5x5.

Is there a small amount of space btwn the end of the ground down swingarm tab and the inside face of the slot now? On this note about how much material did you remove from the tab?

Yea...after I modified the tab, the face of the tab does not lay flush with the face of the inside of the slot. (of the DMr bracket)

I shaved quite a bit off....and I ground down the tab so it has more straight edges.

Using Moose's great shot of the stock swingarm tab:

The red part is pretty much gone. The green parts have been ground a bit too.

We tried the stock Caliper bracket on my swingarm tab and after all the grinding it doesn't really seem like it fits well anymore.
    I may be imagining things.

Hmmm? I don't understand what you mean.

The face of the tab - should not - be touching the back face of the slot - you should have some daylight between these two parts.

From what you've noted this is what you have now after grinding down the tab...do I have this right?

Well, this is good news at least!

On side note - are you running a radial in the back and a bias ply up front? - I'm not sure where you left of with the tire selection.

Both my tires are Bias Ply

I couldn't find any radials for sale that have the front and rear sizes....and I didn't want to have 2 different sets or have one Radial and one Bias-Ply.

I'm running Pirelli Demon Sport, Front (100/90-16) and Rear (150/70-17)

5x5. Are you going to install a 17" wheel up front?

I was thinking of doing the Hurricane wheel up front.

But not until I can get this Cylinder#1 issue sorted out.

    Why do you ask?

It's an aesthetic call here - but I think that the wheel designs should match. If you go with an F2 rim, up front, you'll need to machine the hub for the correct rotor spacing and you'll run into the 120 wide tire issue (not fitting inside the stock fender) but you'll have a mated pair.

The other option is to switch to CBR600F rims - for the front and the rear wheels, but I'm guessing you don't want to get into this now that the F2 rear wheel is dialed in...

On this note - I think the F2 rims, while you can get them to work, are really a force fit on the VF500F.

I think it'll look fine. I already have mismatched wheels as it is and a White F wheel would still look good on my bike. Much better than my current VF500 wheel.

Yea....reasons why I don't want to go to the F2 front wheel.

Yea....Now that the rear fits and is almost problem free....I'd rather keep it.

I agree 100%. I wouldn't recommend going the F2 wheel route to anyone. If I could go back into time I'd stop myself from doing the F2 Kit.
The Hurricane F wheels seem to fit so much better. They seem to allow so much more clearance and the F wheels allow you to keep the Centerstand.

....and even though you are supposedly able to fit a 160 tire with the F2 kit, it doesn't seem possible. My 150 (actually a 155) is sooooooo close to rubbing the swingarm.

The difference between a 140 F rear tire and a 150 F2 rear tire is probably really inconsequential on our bikes. So might as well go the easier route.

If I was to do anything to my rear wheel swap I'd ask to try and fit your Denoonsp rear caliper and bracket so I can get rid of the Daugherty Motorsports one.

    Well noted.

Happy to hear that you've crossed the finish line on your F2 rear wheel conversion - it was quite a marathon!

Time for a new thread on your 'F' front rim install?

    Thanks.

I still have to figure out the deal with the Rear Caliper bolt rubbing the rotor...and it'd be nice to hear something from Jamie now that I feel I have proven that the Kit doesn't fit other bikes than mine.

No no....the next big thread from me will be one of the following.

-Finally Happened. VF500 has died on me

-Bought another Bike. Parting out my VF500

-Pulled the front Head off the VF500. Investigation begins.
