That photo shows the exhaust bolted directly to the oil pan. I am surprised because normally you are trying to keep the oil cool, and that certainly is not helping.

Matt.....did you extend your headers some how, or modify your exhaust so it goes lower and clears the oil pan?

Yea...the stock exhaust bolts up like that as well.

There's a lot of things these bikes should have gotten from the factory.

There still should be clearance....no matter how "hard" you are cornering.

Are the forks sitting in the stock position in the clamps?

Did you adjust the rear shock? ...and if so what to?

There was talk about the forks being firm when you got them from Jamie, but you adjusted them (and now they are good). You mentioned the fork adjustments are made from the top of the forks (preload & damping)

What did you adjust them to?

Interesting note - from this I would say that Hindle did design a 4-1 to fit the '86 (and its deeper oil pan) then.

the C-clips are touching the clip ons the forks and the shock are spot on, jamie could'nt adjust the forks for me with out a bike a couple of rides and a few quick changes got them right on target, as far as fork adjustment iduno a few turns out loosen up the front end pretty well them rear shock is on the frimer side of things all i've adjusted on the rear was damping.. as far as the header dragging it does and i will be fixing that problem ( theres no chicken strips on my tires)

Thanks for the post. I guess in part the trick to sourcing an aftermarket exhaust system, for the VF500F, is to find out - if at all possible before you purchase one of course - whether it was happily installed on an '84/'85 or on an '86.

I glad you got the right one - right off the bat! Sounds like a great purchase.

If you have a chance to post a photo or two of the ground clearance issues you've run into with your Hindle I'd appreciate it. I'm curious to see how far down they extend below the chin cowl.

    Thx!

    Thanks for the post.

Is the clearance conflict - when cornering - closer to the rear wheel then?

Matt....post the link to the full size picture of you at the Dragons Tail. The same pic that's on the VFRWorld calander.

I was looking at it and you can see the clearance and the damage easily in that one

Do you have them on a file sharing server? Like imageshack or something.

Attaching them to the thread makes them small.

Though from looking at those pics it looks like the header pipes are still within the chin fairing you should be scraping pegs before you scrape the chin fairing unless your suspension is too low or too soft.

So you have rubbed the header before the Front upgrades.....

Have you rubbed the header since the F2 front wheel and 900rr Forks?
