    Hi Guys,

I was out on my new (to me) 2000 VFr today and I was at 240 degrees pretty much all day. Maybe 235 even at 80-90 mph. It was 90 degrees here in NY today when I discovered "Skyline" road ( the nicest motorcycle road I have ever found), near Sloatsburg.

This seems really high, especially at speed. Fan was running, and it never got hotter than 242, but damn... The metal frame between fairings was red hot, too hot to touch.

Suggestions? I didn't change the coolant when I purchased the bike thursday, so I think I am going to get the HOnda blue stuff and give it a go. Any other ideas welcome. Fan mod? any way to get more air to the radiator?

captmarc.... I wrapped my headers with thermo wrap stuff, keeps some heat off right leg, my 98 vfr keeps about same temp. swing as most units, I also have water wetter & honda coolant, my fan will come on on 90+ days when stopped in traffic. BTW want another road ? look up RT 42 in NY State. take thruway to exit 19 , pay toll ( puts you on circle ) take first right Rt 28 & watch for THE MAN, after aprox. 19 miles ?? sign for Rt 42 to goes up & over a mountain. @ the end turn around & do it again or ...@ end of 42 you will cross over bridge , turn right for hunter mt. or turn left for Prattsville.. go threw town BUT before Bridge made right & enjoy the ride .

I'd start with a coolant change, the Honda stuff or Prestone extended life orange but it's critical to make sure it's burped and all the air is out. If that doesn't help I'd suspect a stuck thermostat. I had to replace the one on my '99 at around 30K or so. Unless you're ringing it's neck at 10K rpm constant it should drop below 200 degrees at speed.

I will definitely check out that road, its about 90 minutes from my house, but sounds like a good excuse to ride all day! Cheers!

Sounds like a thermo change in my future and good belch. Do you happen to have a part #? Is there an aftermarket thermostat that works better? Thanks for the help!

In traffic I have hit 225 on occasion. Not often.

On the track it was hitting around 235-240.

No warning lights came on so I assume those temps are still within the safe range.

I live in florida and it is stop and go non-stop. My bike runs at about 200 on average after I ran a switch to bypass the temp switch on the radiator when running around in town. This help a bunch it keeps it running cooler, so it don't have to work so hard to cool its self down once it is already hot, in this florida heat. Just flip the switch off and the temp switch works normal. Also did this to my vf1000r and it made a big differance.

ive had the vtr1000 fan and the stock fan on my bike.
the vtr fan works great if you keep moving. the whole bike ie frame tank etc doesnt seem to heat up as much.
but, stopped in traffic in florida heat it will keep climbing above 230, until you start moving again.

the stock fan is okay at keepin the temps below 230 in traffic, but the tank and frame get hot as hell.
and it doesnt work very well at speed.

*this is all in conjunction with water wetter+distilled water and a manual switch.
