Go to your local metal scrap yard and you can find scraps of perforated stainless .

    Ok now you know.

They use that perforated stainless for a tray in the french fry pans at resturaunts.

    Thank you for the post.

You can purchase 'pre-made' perforated stainless tubing.

I believe this is what Hopit88 is using on his build - could be mistaken though...

That's exactly what I'm using. I could have bought the perforated sheet and rolled it but this was easier.Got mine here...

PERFORATED STAINLESS TUBING - 2-1/2" O.D. by LA Choppers - Baron Custom Accessories

I won't know for sure if it will be too loud or not till I fire it up. My buddy has a kF with a V&H header(2 2-1's) and it sounded fairly mellow. He wanted more bark so he gutted the baffle, Surprisingly, there was no packing when he got in to it. After, it was too loud and a "wrong" kind of sound. We welded the baffles back in and it was back to deep but only slightly louder than stock.

My Yosh's were open with the stock collector box and it had the best sound of any V4 I've heard. The box did a lot to keep back pressure up and sound levels down. It was by no means loud but had a great growl when hard on the gas. I know I'm losing some back pressure with this exhaust so if I do pack it , it will to hopefully return some back pressure.

Don't forget, it does have an end cap and the openning in it is fairly small.

A little less back pressure and it will be lean. I would turn the air pilot screws out 1/4 turn if that is the case.
I had the same problem and thought I would have to increase the main jets but instead I opened the air pilot screws
only 1/4 turn and got excellent results in the midrange between 1/4 or more throttle.

I also checked my results with a air fuel mixture meter that has a temporary oxygen sensor in the header,
and a spark plug reading. Now the plugs look light brown instead of white.

I actually laughed out loud! You're the best. Hands down, one of the most positive, supportive people on here.

Damn, now I HAVE to get some work done or else. Let me see....hmm...Ah yes, I'll see if I can find a place for my new MotoBatt that came in on thursday. Not a whole lot of places left to put it. The shop elves are happy that it's much smaller than my YB16.

I don't believe it. It fired right up. I haven't heard it run in 18 month's. The MotoBatt is amazing. Spins the big V4 faster than any battery in the past. It used to go "whut-tut- tut-tut-vroom. Now it goes whut-tut-vroom. A starter rebuild and fresh grounds didn't hurt. There is a back fire from the rear exhaust after full throttle then shut off. Nice little flame. The front is fine. I have very little tweaking to do after the rejet. I'm waiting for some exhaust packing to arrive cause it is loud.

Great news - congratulations on the start up!

I can imagine that it is P-51 loud w/out exhaust packing - is the neighbor's cat up in a tree?

I've been thinking about purchasing a MotoBatt for my VF500F - I have read positive reviews on these - there aren’t too many sealed battery options for the VF500F right now, and from the current intel they offer a good product.

I went with the MBTX9U. Used on Hayabusa's. 230 cca's and it's only 5.94'' x 3.43'' x 4.33'' and 7 pounds. I was strapped for room so this worked out great compared to my stock 6.31” x 3.56” x 6.38”. I have mine on it's side which is no problem for a sealed AGM. It has 4 terminals so you have many options for placement or adding a charger pigtail.

This unbiased test sealed the deal for me on MotoBatt, that and the $60 price tag.

The chopper is running well and is now licensed in the State of California.
Feels good. I am already making a new seat that is one inch lower and one inch longer, and has a back support.

Your bike is going well. If you use that dark blue paint your bike will look smaller and sleeker. Yellow is the compliment of blue, but use the yellow sparingly. it goes a long way.

I just ordered a firewire card for my PC so when it comes in I'll definitely shoot some vid of it pre-packing. It sounds mean as hell, definitely not the bike you want showing up to take your daughter out on. Hopefully the ceramic packing and the SS wool will quiet things down a bit.

I do have visions of riding the pants off it when it's done, I've already lost a season and a half, but something tells me I'll be puttin' around for a while waiting for things to fall off or ignite in flames. Since I did nearly everything myself, I'm not 100% sure the engineering is sound. It'll be fun finding out though!

Some have asked for a sound bite before the packing goes in. Here you go. With a subwoofer, it sounds pretty true to life. On top, it totally over whelms the cameras mic.(and my ears) Sounds like a GP bike without the chest thump. It doesn't crackle like some open V4 exhausts so something is right in there. She's running lean and a little lumpy down low but an A/F adjustment and a synch should help. May have to move the needle up as well. I'll know more when I can get out on the road.
