    I respectfully disagree. I was surprised by how many new members sign up daily and the notification tells me when crabby old men post up disgruntled threads.

    you don't like knowing when there is a new thread? or you don't like knowing that we have new members every day?

    I think the new thread thing is neat cause it encourages people to participate in threads they might have missed, and the new member thing is encouraging that we are growing. I know maybe you guys don't care, but we who work in the background (and foreground) like to know that the word is getting out there. If others are aggravated by it, we can disable it, though. We are even considering other chat prgs.

    Let's say, if you could have your ideal chat prg what would it have?

    Colors
    Font sizing
    private messaging
    alternate chat rooms
    scrolling up or down
    large buffer
    no buffer
    smileys
    free coffee?

    My ideal chatbox would be to bring back pm messaging. The colors I don't really care about one way or the other if people like them that's ok. I usually look at what's new link to figure out what I haven't seen since I last was on the site. And make Elwray and Tink stop being mean to me and acting so gay

    I would like video chat! also I would like the option of replying to PMs from my normal email rather than having to logon to the site. Additionally a daily "chat digest" email would be cool that contains the chat log from the last 24 hours

    I like this iteration of the chat seems to be the most stable with a fast refresh rate. I like the colors since it makes it easier to see who is saying what. Pm would be nice but I think colors are more important personally

    edit: and now to fix all my spelling mistakes i blame on the phone's auto-text.

    that's interesting. I wonder if anyone has thought of that. Well the software we use is called vBulletin and the chat prg is just an add-on so if you guys see a chat prg somewhere else on a vbulletin site, take note of how it works and let us know what you think of it.

    if you are logged in, the site should give you a popup that tell's you you have a PM...

    yeah, I haven't had as many crash complaints lately. we are always on the lookout for something bigger and better, though. that's the main reason tori gets so pissed off is that we change stuff around then he doesn't know how to work it anymore.

    I'm a mod on a SMF site that uses AJAX chat by blueimp... I think I read somewhere there's a version for vBulletin too...? it has colors, PMs, multiple chat "channels", easy user ignore commands... I believe admins have control over various chat box notification announcements as well. The interface isn't quite as slick as what we're using here now, but it might be worth looking into?

    yea, when you change from one section to another of the forum. The old black and white chat program that allowed PM's ALSO used to notify you of a regular PM. So if you're sitting in chat and the PM whore TOE CUTTER sends you a three page PM, the chatbox would notify you on the spot.

    The colors need to stay. People with failing eyesite who stare at a computer screen all day need the colors to see if someone new has posted a message when they should be working. Multiple chat "rooms" just makes this high school again with little private groups all over the place. I'd feel sorry for Tink sulking in a chat room all by himself all day with no one to chat with...
