    Hey all,

I'm missing a couple of bolts on my fairing that I'd like to replace but unsure of the thread required, and where to get them.

The bolt I need ATM is:

    Marked in blue.

Is there a complete kit of hex / allen key bolts I can replace the grey fairing bolts with?

    Regards

    -Dave-

The part number should be available at your Honda dealership for that particular bolt. You folks down under may call it something different than we. You can try one of the large online motorcycle parts and aftermarket suppliers that have graphics indicating the various assemblys. One is Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Accessories ? BikeBandit.com Just plug in the data on your bike and go from there.

There are sets of hex bolts for bikes some even in some sort of wild colors. None that I have ever seen for that particular bolt. The equivalent bolt on my 91 is stainless steel. In a worst case scenario you might try a well stocked hardware supplier for a replacment fitting. If it's too long it can alway be cut off and filed smooth.

While you are searching for what you need and since it's summer there you are probably doing some riding. I would advise plugging that hole with something even as awful looking as a plain bolt and a washer. A bit of insurance against cracking your fairing.

Another trick is to use a silicone Oring or a rubber washer between the hanger and the plastic fairing for attenuation.

So a Honda dealer quoted me $AU4.60 for the bolt but said that Honda had none in Australia. Took a drive down to Renew (where I bought my bike) and they gave me one for free out of a box of bolts :)

Long ago I went to my local Honda dealer and ordered spare bolts and clips for each type of faster on the fairing and front fender.
Have used up the last of the black plastic clips and will have to get some more soon. The Honda dealer is the place to get them.

    Hi,
great to see you got it sorted. Just FYI I ordered a complete set of fairing bolts (polished stainless) from a US company called Bikebolts.com. They are based in Cincinnati. I ride a '98 and the part number for the set was 2003-C. Total cost including shipping to Sydney was $56.20 (Aus). It contained 98 parts including well nuts and washers. Good install instructions and they all fitted perfect. Please note though that the thread size was the same but the bolt diameter was much smaller than standard and required the use of the supplied shoulder washers. Check them out.

Great find and good info! Down the mainpage a bit we see that the dreaded pushpin rivets that Honda sells for slighly less than gold are only $.38 USD each. What would be interesting if one had the time would be to do a cost comparison part for part pitting a Honda dealer against Bikebolts. Just guessing but from experience, the differential might be in the thousands of dollars..;)

Just took a look at your avatar pic. Perfect! LOL

    Hi Badbilly,
Those pushpin rivets are fiddly. I replaced a couple of mine and my wife had to remove the children from earshot for a little while.
    Glad you liked the Avatar.
    Cheers Mark

I would submit that the children were also removed at about the same time the R/R crapped out. I am on my 4th.. Next go round I will use language the even adults should not hear..;)

The rivets are available here from a large chain called NAPA again at a much lower price than we find at the Honda dealers. On one oil change I misplaced the original rivets. Not wishing to lay blame on my dog for eating them or cursing the Gods for stealing them, a quick trip to a local hardware store, a little fancy work with a pair of sidecutters on some drywall expansion bolts held until I could find the proper items.

    Cheers.

Just about the time I get this generation thing down pat, some damned parts house starts wanting you to buy stuff using what year the bike was built. Rats! Just for that I am tossing out my Who tunes and torching my Jack kerouac shrine. I am keeping my 3D glow in the dark poster of Kim Kardashian because her boobs remind me of ABS plastic.
