I read a couple of months ago about synthetic oil. No one mention Royal Purple. Is it too slippery for the clutch, or do you "guys" think it'll work.
The bike is an 85 700 Interceptor.
    Thanks.

1.Not another oil thread. 2. As long as it does not say "energy conserving" in the lower half of the API seal on the rear, you are cool. Now all that said, in an older bike that has not run synthetic before you can develop leaks. Synthetic will leak around older worn seals as the molecules are smaller and more uniform.

I've tried it, and was not impressed! Also tried Mobil1 motorcycle 10/40, the bike felt no better with that stuff either. When I tried RedLine Motorcycle oil, I noticed a difference. Smoother shifts and cooler temps. That alone sold me on the RL oil.

Bull! I've used it for over 30 years and never got a leak after changing over to syn from dino. On my ol Toyota 4x4 truck with 491k it was burning to much oil(mobil1 10/30), so at around 400k I changed to Chevron Delo 400 15/40wt. and it does burn less.

Not. Bull. Too many members found out the hard way.
It is not a guarantee you will develop a leak but a possibility. As you didn't development a leak on your truck. I did have a leak develop on my van after switching over. I changed back to Dino and all was well. Mellow dude seems to have had an issue as well. Just because it didn't happen to you does not make it BULL.

I'm sure you had leaks, as most old motors will develop leaks. But it's not the oil, its a lack of preventative maintenance. If it were the oil, it would leak within hours. Say you have an oil leak from your valve cover. You buy a new gasket, install it, and your leak is fixed!

My list of bikes I've used synthetic oil in(and had no oil related problems)
    CB750
    KZ1000
    CX500
    CB400 and 450
    GPz550 and 750
    VF500
    Ninja900
    CBR900RR
    CBR1100xx
    VFR800fi

All of the bikes were run on Mobil1 and RedLine for a period of 10k~60k miles.

And a few other I cant think of right now.

If your bike is leaking oil? try some preventative maintenance.

Thank god for that! because your logic(or lack of)is flawed. If your saying you had fresh rubber seals on your engine and it still leaked? than I'll stick with my first thought, BULL!

There are many cars that factory fill with synthetic oil and they dont leak. If most of your vehicles leak after the change, it's more likely poor workmanship on your part. I say this because in the few cases I've found leaky engines running synthetic oil, they no longer leaked after the BAD SEAL was replaced.

And I wish you luck, as you need with a leaky engine track record like yours.

I always thought the Delo 400 was a dino oil with some "ISO SYN" additives? Is it a true synthetic oil?

It is Dino oil. I dont think it's even a group III. But it's cheap good oil for my 300 mile per quart Toyota.

Wow, didn't mean to start a fight. Thanks. Filled it with the purple and it doesn't seem to leak. Also the clutch seems to grab. It's not legal yet so I can't say for sure.
    Thanks every body.

It's not you, just so you know. Tempers have been unusually short here for a while. This too shall pass.

Well, they're sponsoring SpeedTV's coverage of MotoGP so I'd hope bike usage is the intended usage??
