The cover serves a dual purpose. It's secondary use is as a fuel evaporater preventer for those long hauls in the Colorado Mountains where places to pee and fresh Jo-jos are in short supply.

jo-jo's are not on the diet plan right now. But let this be a warning; I wouldn't recommend you stand between me and an oatmeal cream pie....

Did you know that oatmeal cream pies are the national dessert of Canada? This may be the reason we never see any ethnic Canadian restaurants on our side of the border. ;)

finished tearing the old motor down today and found the spun bearing. There was still some bearing left but it was paper thin and the crank journal was severely scored. Everything else looks mint so no clue what caused it other than the stripe down the center of the rear tire from the previous owner doing burnouts.

Hope to get a little bit more plastic repair going this afternoon. Another week will go by with no work completed on the project as I have to go out of town for work :pout:

Much more progress today on the body work in anticipation of the new engine coming soon.
Unfortunately, no good pictures to share.
Minor dent in the tank filled.
The tank and both metal belly skins shot in primer.
Much fiberglass mesh and filler used last night and today.
Lots and lots of hand sanding.
Softball on Monday and family coming to town next weekend so more slow progress.
Life really gets in the way of playing.

whatever you do, make sure your primer is 100% set up - usually 2-3 days before a light wet sand (to remove any orange peel) and top coat. If there are any imperfections, do not assume layering gobs of color on will fix them. either sand them to rectify, or fill with glazing putty avail at auto parts store.

that's the last thing these parts need is gobs of paint. half my problem has been sanding thru thick layers of paint and primer from the last crash/repair.

That test coat I did with primer weeks ago was pretty good at giving me an idea of what covers and what doesn't. I have some more sanding to do on a lower because of stuff that shows thru on the primer. Otherwise, I think things are coming together nicely.

The goal this weekend is to get both uppers, mirrors, and the tail section shot in primer. The tank is already in primer and virtually mint. I have a couple tiniest little blemishes where the decals go that need touchup with glazing putty. If I have the uppers, tail, and tank done, I can shoot color next weekend and then the thing will at least be able to roll around the block while I finish the lowers and mid's.
