I haven't folded yet but the creme pies are speaking to me. If I wake in the middle of the night there could be trouble.

Took the folks up to Rocky Mountain National Park today to see elk, deer, mountain goats, and turkey. Then we got home and grilled elk burger for dinner. No, not elk from the national park.

Had enough time to crank the motor over with the compression tester. I got between 80-90psi on all 4 holes. Plenty to move forward so we proceeded to remove the motor from the frame.

I have a complete motor sitting pretty in the middle of the garage floor.

BTW, crazy story; we came down off the mountain and just missed a giant rock slide that punched a hole in the road and smashed someone's minivan.

    http://www.kdvr.com/news/sns-ap-co--colorockslide,0,3294129.stor

We got there minutes after it happened and all the gawkers were standing around looking up the hill and taking pictures. I was blaring my horn to get the hell thru before more rocks came down. Some people are so stupid.

In between family stuff yesterday I still managed to get the motor pressure washed, checked the valve clearances, and ordered a thermostat.

Found #3 Intakes were +.001 out of spec and #2 exhaust were -.005 out of spec. If I'm lucky, I can pull shims from #2 to make up the gap in #3 and not have to buy a shim kit.

The motor is in position under the frame and I hope to get it installed while I have extra hands around. I'll pull the cams and adjust the valves with the motor in the frame.

Motor is in, exhaust is on. Photos to follow on Monday or Tuesday.

Still have to shim the valves and clean the carbs all before Thursday when the Tstat comes in.

Would have been easier to shim the valves with the motor on the ground but I had the extra hands available to get the motor in place today.

Lastly there's still lots of body work still to finish up.

Cundalini - let me know if you still need a loaner brake pedal. This one's bent just like mine but should be able to straighten and use. PM me shipping address and I'll try to get it out in the next two days.

The shipping crate is going to make a good paint booth compared with the garage wall I was using.

got the new tstat and hoses installed, new plugs, and gapped the valves. I had one valve I didn't think I would be able to get into spec with the shims that I had. Finally swapped out a valve bucket from the old set of heads and that did the trick.

Tomorrow is finish cleaning carbs, install radiator, add fluids and crank it over.

Still expect to have it running tomorrow. Oil changed today, connected up the battery, mounted radiator and hoses. Tomorrow morning is back to carb cleaning and then see if she'll fire up.

Well here it is - my first youtube upload. crappy crackberry video. There's a little knocking in the clutch that goes away when you pull in the handle.

Thanks a million to the NoCal guys who helped get this motor to me. That crate made an amazing 3rd workbench in the garage and will make a great paint booth as I finish the plastics.

Next on the agenda is to box up my spare parts and make room in the garage again to get going on that body work. It will be interesting to see what that old VFR frame from Cali is worth at the scrap.

I'm using 49states carbs with Cali cams which have about .050 less lift. It'll be interesting to see if there's a difference. This winter I may swap out for the 49states cams.
