Hi all and wondering if the condition of my stator looks normal?

It is off my 94 VFR750 and from my perspective it looks okay?

Cannot see any burnt or damage to the wiring/coils etc.

What do you think and is there any way of knowing if it is bad?

I agree that it looks OK and if in the bike you can check if its making the correct the voltage it should be (70 V when measured across any combination of the wires IIRC)

If out of the bike I guess you're stuck with measuring the resistance/checking for continuity and maybe you could check the soundness of the insulation with a Mega.

However, I'm a Mechanical Engineer so I wouldn't beleive anyhting Ive said and check with a spark. I'm sure one will be along soon !!

    Good Luck

Why did you remove the stator? Was there something wrong electrically with the bike? At a glance it looks just fine, just make sure your harness connector is good. Otherwise, testing its insulation resistance (megger) requires a meggohmeter, not commonly found in a tool shop. So as Tris mentioned, you can check it's voltage output - if the stator coils/windings have collapsed, it will not generate voltage, then it's no good.

Remember for future reference, if it ain't broke, dont fix it!

Had an issue with not restarting when at normal operating temps.

Bike is fine on any ride, be it commute or 200km non stop(turn key off) ride.
However if I stop during the ride and turn the key off, she will not turn over until she has cooled down.

Battery tested low so swapped in a new one, same result again.
Thought starter motor may have been damaged at armature so fitted newer one and marginally better once tested, then back to square one again.

No pulsing whilst riding, lights and dash lights/clock etc all run normally.

All connections checked, cleaned and assembled with dielectric grease.
Starter relay checked and is good.
    Battery leads all good.
PO has changed R/R to newer finned SH701-12 model.

Tested stator and seemed to test fine, thought I would check anyway.

Will go over wires carefully now and may be I got a dud battery?

Hmmmm just had a thought and think I may have caused my electrical issue I have been having.

When I got the bike I noticed slight leaks from both engine side cases, so bought new gaskets to fit.
Drained oil etc and removed both engine cases. Now if I read right, I should have disconnected the Battery negative terminal before removing the stator and cover?

    What would this have caused?

I don't want to teach my grandmother to suck eggs, but you did check the voltage regulator out befroe you pulled the stator???

Sure did and have been told results are fine.
    Am starting to wonder though.

Think I will go back and recheck all connectors and may rewire the stator, R/R, battery etc with a heavy gauge wire and better connectors(soldered of course) and then test from battery etc again.
