I bought the bike you're talking about last night...the PO was a 69 year old retired Chiropractor. The bike scared the shit out of him. Says now he's gonna get a Harley w/ 80 pounds of chrome and a two foot wide seat. Anyway...we haggled for a while and I bought it for $1500. He lives about 5 blocks from me so I just walked over, bought it and drove it home. She looks pretty good, 16,802miles, been setting for a few months, scraped right-side fairing(repairable), surface rust and spider webs(parked outside), and cracked rear fairing(repairable). The only issue is the carbs will need cleaning, only idles with about 1/2 choke. Has a Two Brothers exhaust system, carbon fiber front fender and chain guard/rear wheel hugger. Painted pearl white.

Now I have two V-4's! Will be selling the vf500f next week, runs like a scalded cat, just too damned small for me. I'm 6'7" and look like a monkey fucking a walnut on it. The vfr on the other hand fits great...a little snug under the tank, but almost comfortable! Sat on a Ninja 750 last month and felt like I was sitting on a tricycle...

The three of them together look like a black and white photo of a used bike lot! My apt. manager isn't talking to me right now. Ha!

Check the front end. Looks like the triples have been dropped.

A little TLC and she'll be like new. Lock her up good.

Yeah...I have a Kryptonite chain with her name on it. Got a cable and a rotor lock on it right now.

What does it mean "triples have been dropped" I've never heard the term.

Will check it out tomorrow, spent the day insuring, registering, buying oil, brake fluid, filters, spark plugs and all the sundry crap I need to service or replace on every machine I buy. Probably wont even drive it for a week, depending on how much carb work is needed. What's the oil capacity on this beast?

As I really don't need to raise the bars (quite the contrary) is bringing the triple trees back to their normal position difficult? Any help would be great on this guys. I'm reasonably savvy with bike work, but the front steering on motorbikes is still one of life's mysteries to me.

    Thanks,

    Dave

wait... you just bought a 1997 vfr for $1500?

The original craigslist post expired so I didnt get to see what was wrong with it.

enlighten me? $1500 seems low for a 1997 vfr. Was this an epic score, or a project bike?

Truly an epic score. My opening post lists the few problems. Will take me a week to fix up the cosmetics and do the carbs and I have a screamer. Rough as it is, his thing still turns heads and the 2-bros V-8 rumble scares my girlfriend.

Rode it on I-5 for about 5 miles after I picked it up and she pulled right up to 95mph in 5th no prob. Gonna keep this one.

I payed 2600 euro for my 1995 750vfr with 53.800 km. Cleaned the carbs chemicly with forté fuelsystemcleaner and forté gastreatment(just put it in the fueltank). Replaced all filters and fluids(oil: Kroon expulsaRR full synth.), sparks and brakepads. I also replaced stearing head bearings and front shockoil. It runs like hell!!. Next are new tires: Michelin power road2. Chain and sprockets were almost new when I bought it and I lubricate it with a SAE 90 Yamahalube for outboardgeardrive.
I have a lot of fun riding this bike. Bought it last winter and have driven it for just over 3.000 km with no problems.

Damn bakaki, you do the same thing I do when I buy a bike! Except I won't need steering head bearings or tires for a while. I'm looking forward to putting a few thousand kms on this one too.

Kenwood, yep. I also synchronised the carbs, witch made a very positive change. Better gasresponse and acceleration and smooth idling and riding. Have fun servicing your new bike and riding it! I've been out for a spin this afternoon. What a beautifull machine..
