I voted that i would not consider buying one, pretty much for the reasons Reg the Dude mentioned, I don't really have anything against the new one the way others seem too....
Also I am a new rider and just bought a new 2007 and don't even have 1,000 miles on it yet!
I don't need and can't afford another bike yet! I like my 2007 so far and can see myself riding it for a few more years!

Wouldn't buy one simply based on price and the last thing I need is more displacement. Other than that, I don't think its an ugly bike. I think it's one of those "it grows on you" bikes or is that assimilates you?

Anyway, why bother bashing something you've never ridden? I'd ride it, I'd ride the hell out of it but I'm not going to buy one.

I'm no BMW fanboy- in fact I ditched my 2004 R1150GS for my 6th gen! That bike was slow, badly engineered, heavy and was costing me a king's ransome in repairs with only 24k on it. That being said, the 1000RR apparently kicks serious ass and the DTC is setting the mark for what the Japanese are going to have to do to catch up. Would I buy one? Hell no- its too new and who knows what the long-term reliability is going to be like. I'd buy a CBR or Gixxer liter bike first but I'm not going to knock a bike that is kicking arse all over the place just because it says BMW and the Germans managed to beat Japan at their own game.

I voted no, but mostly for the reasons Reg71 laid out. I don't replace bikes often, and I never buy new. If someone stole my '04 VFR, I would probably replace it with another 6th G.

    . . . or maybe I would buy a Ducati ST4 or a Multistrada . . . .

I would love to try it but as far as value is concerned, it just isn't measured on the same scales as the 6th or previous generations in dollars per smile / mile. The bike has taken a step towards the more serious touring side of the balance which will limit its abilities on track days. I need a bike that is more flexible (as my avatar clearly shows) and can adapt to either environment which I don't think the new bike can do as well as the previous versions.

If I had an abundance of cash I would be looking at it as opposed to say an FJR1300 or an ST1300 for light touring. This is assuming that they get some touring goodies ready to hang off it of course.

I like sport touring bikes. I currently own an '08 VFR and an '08 FJR. And recently, I owned an '04 BMW R1150 RT and an '04 BMW K1200 RS. If I were to buy a new bike today, the short list would include the VFR 1200 and the BMW K1300 S - I think they are very similar bikes and I am surprised at what Honda is doing. Not only does it look like Honda is going after the BMW sport touring market, but they are still marketing the ST1300 and the VFR800. That's a crowded field, thus my desire for this non scientific poll on how the VFR1200 is selling.

With 53 votes as of today, 11% have bought one and 58% will NOT buy one. It's a slow seller. Maybe it's the recession, maybe it's the bike, maybe it's first model year jitters.

Honda is aiming the 1200 at a different demographic than your average VFRWorld member. I think the poll results reflect that.

I am still a VFR lover, but at present the new 1200cc VFR is not something I am considering - it does make me wanna check the ST1300 a bit more. Before I bought my 2k VFR I was considering a 93 ST1100. This is kinda self serving, but if the new 1200cc VFR gets popular maybe I can get a good deal on a 2005 or 2006 VFR, or even better find a 2009 leftover VFR during the winter. I am a Gen 5 VFR lover, my favorite VFR is still the White 93 VFR and I have a lot of respect for the 1986 VFR riders who keep the VFR legend alive. Too bad I am too lazy to do the work to keep a vintage VFR running and looking great. In the end ride what you like and be safe and enjoy!!!

I hear you. I can't see spending 16k on a car, much less a bike... any bike, don't care who makes it or how much I wanted it. That said, I would like to own a VFR1200. Now to find someone else to pay for it.

I voted No. For the asking price over here it simply doesn't match what the Bimmers offer for the same price. The looks, well i think its a bike that will grow on most! Plus it's new, how good will the reliability be? I had a Hyosung GT650 for my first bike and the reasons i got my viffer, was looks, feel and most importantly the known reliability of the viffer's. Happy to let some rich buggers show how well the bike will perform and then consider buying one!

Are buggers there the same as buggers here? Eeeek! Here they ride Harleys mostly and begin posts with references to assholes. This is very Freudian.

Voted no. It provokes no emotion in me one way or the other. I am not consumed with hate for it. It just isnt my cup of tea. I will continue to write in short sentences.

You may decide to buy one. I will be happy for you. I will not buy one. My happiness for you will not change.

I voted No - not at this time. Now, maybe 5-8 yrs down the road, when I am more, ehhh, mature.
Agree with some of the rational comments here - not so much the irrational ones!

It's too big, too expensive. It would not fulfill my riding style/desires - again, at this time in my life. That said, it looks very nice, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a first year model if I was in the market for one.

For now I'll stick with my 5th gen 2000 VFR & 2002 RC51 - perfect combo for me!

I voted no with my checkbook; two weeks ago I bought an '09 instead. The 2010 rolled onto the sales floor nearly the same day I bought mine, but it wasn't even a consideration with a list price nearly 60% higher. To my knowledge it's still on the floor, granted it has only been 2 weeks.

one of the problems with the VFR 1200 is that while Honda were preparing this new FlagShip sport touer both BMW and ducati moved the goalposts much further down the field.

the new K1300S (and S1000R) bristle with the kind of tech that the honda should have.

ducati have also raised the bar with their all new multistrada.

the VFR12 by comparison feels a little under done in the tech stakes, and by a fair margin, compared to both these other two 2010 bikes.

it will be interesting to see if honda increase the tech factor in subsequent versions. and while the DCt is still a ways off release, and is a tech type component,
id rather have the ESA (electonic suspension adjustment) system on both the ducati & the BMW than a DCT. ( i can change gear on my own thanks honda ), and ESA would certainly offer most riders alot more value than a clutch- less gear system. (IMO)

I have a new 08 Gen 6 which Ive had for 6 months and love riding. Added some pipes and maybe soon a PCV and am enjoying the normal proccess of making the bike "mine."

Id rather buy an old CBR600 or a Hornet or simialr so I can take it to a track day or riding courses without worrying about dropping it.

As for the VFR1200; here in Australia they are going for 24-26k which if just fu@#*%^*ing Bu#($#%&sit:crazy: given that were pretty close to parity with the USD where I see they are USD$14k. Theres no way Honda can expect us to :spit:

Mind you when the DN01 came out it was18k and my dealer reckons they were pushing them out the door 12 months later for 11k. Maybe we will see how they are doing in 18 months.
    Cheers from OZ

I wanted one. The two local dealers here have bikes on the showrooom floor and they are not selling. They are asking MSRP. I agree that by the time you get saddlebags and a centerstand on the new VF1200 you could buy a BMW K1300S, and it has heated grips to boot. I have tried to get myself to like the new bike enough to pony-up and buy one...but I cant. I went again today to look at it and was underwhelmed. It's just too much money for what you get in my opinion. I mean...come on. Its a Honda, not a Ducati or BMW. If it was 11,999 or thereabouts, with saddlebags, centerstand, and heated grips, there would be one in my garage already. My local dealers have had the bike in stock for months and they're still there sitting on the showrooms. I think the deals may start soon as dealers try to move them.

I just got back from a 785 mile round-trip excursion through Paso Robles and Hwy 58 in one day on my 2007 VFR800. Man I do love that bike!
