So I'm in the process of rebuilding my front forks and I gave them a very quick coat of paint.....but when I taped everything off to paint...and then peeled off the tape...the tape took with it some decals.
Like the one on the knob showing the level number the front fork is set to.

So now I have no clue what that selector knob is set to.

    My questions are:

-Is it easy to tell when the knob is set to 1 or 4

-Does anyone have pictures as to where the little hole on the knob is in relation to the fork when set to 4 or 1?

    Anyone?

All ya gotta do is go out to your VF500 and turn the knob on the front fork to 4 and let me know if it's all the way clockwise or counterclockwise.

    Please?

When it's on 4 (stiffest) the "dot" is straight up. Turn it clockwise it'll be on 1.

    _ .
    _4
    1 3
    _2

That's how it is on my 85 vf500.

Not quite, there is no "all the way clockwise" or "all the way counterclockwise". You can turn it continuously in either direction....clockwise it's gonna go 12341234... ccw 43214321.....

Maybe I don't understand the midgetceptors adjusters, but i have never seen a suspension adjuster that you could turn an infinite number of times in either direction (cw or ccw) and it would just keep cycling through the adjustments. it would seem to me that it would be unneccesary to have a ccw adjustment as you could just keep spinning the adjuster cw and it would eventually cycle around to a softer setting. I would be interested to see the adjuster in action, as usually bottoming out a suspension adjuster cw is full hard and bottoming it out ccw is full soft. I would also be extremely hesitant to bottom out an adjuster and just keep spinning it ( this typically causes irrepairable damage). If it continues to spin, I would be concerned that it really isn't doing anything. please feel free to enlighten me with something from the service manual. I would be interested in checking it out.

Don't worry, it's normal. The adjuster basically selects one of four differently sized orifices through which fluid flows. The Fox Twin Clicker on my VTR1000F is the same way, though it has 8 positions, not four. Remember, this is a damper rod fork, and uses much different technology than todays newer stuff. Cartridge forks have adjustments which turn like a valve, and have a seat. Those actually have a stop.

    Label for your TRAC knob

I painted my fork lowers this evening. When I masked off all the knobs, holes, studs, and everything I neglected to realize that the TRAC knob label was going to come off with the tape.

I made a Word document that has the numbers on it so you can make yourself a new label. This will print out on the center of the top middle label on a sheet of standard Avery 8160 labels.

I used a piece of clear Scotch tape to protect the outside from the elements. Only time will tell how well the Avery label adhesive will hold up, but on the other hand this is cheap and easy to replace.

The document is too large (a whopping 27 kB) to upload here. I'll email the admin to see if we can get the size limit bumped a little. In the meantime, if you want the file just PM me your email address.

    Wow! Thanks everyone.

...and thank you Hawkrider for the label.

For anyone that has lost the TRAC decal I got a nice set from: Reproduction Decals

They aren't the same as the ones that came off..

The antidive seems moderately effective, seems most are set to #3.
