I gotta say it, the 2nd gen VFR750 is an amazing piece of engineering.

I know this may be somewhat common knowledge, but i just have to tell everybody how impressed I am with the 2nd gen VFR750. I have owned Ninjas, a Hurricane, and in addition to my '91 VFR750, I also have a '99 VFR800, an '02 CBR1100xx & an '03 Hayabusa.

I have owned my VFR750 for a little more than a year now and have taken her from a sad sick bike to the silky smooth ride she is today.

The big bikes are impressive, even thrilling in their own way and the VFR800 is technologically very cool, but the VFR750 is just a fantastic machine, it may not be as fast as newer bikes and it may not stick in a corner like a new GSXR, but what it does it does incredibly well. People joked about the gear driven cams sounding like a sewing machine, but I think there's a deeper metaphor, and that is that the bike runs like a high quality sewing machine too, it's precise, smooth and quiet.

I have been trying to convince myself that I need to sell one of my bikes for some time now and the oldest one is the obvious choice, but every time I ride her I fall in love with the smooth precision.

If you are considering one of these bikes, do it, I guarantee you won't regret it, they are amazing machines.

In your line up, the 750 is the best looking(by far).

I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm in school with lots of guys that drool over the superbikes that get brought in all the time - you know, the student thats never ridden a day in his life but is suddenly immersed into the bike world and just has to have one of the super cool ass bikes on the block so they take their grant money and blow it as a downpayment on a 'Busa or Sportster 1200. Well, I kept my purchase of my '86 VFR750 pretty low key until she was ready to roll into class about 6 weeks ago.

The moment she set foot in the school parking lot everyones heads turned and I was surrounded by dozens of "ooohs" and "aaaahs" and had to answer a medley of Q's about her. I'll admit it, I'm an attention whore so I loved every minute of it - but I didn't think that the VFR was better than most of the bikes that were in the lot, especially my buddies '01 F4i 600. He had me on the top end, but lets just say that was his saving grace was that I wouldn't push her super hard.

The 2nd Gen VFR's command a lot of respect because they were durable, formiddable, and fun to ride. They have a legacy that most current models can't lay claim to and still be able to defend today. I take lots of pride my ride, and don't regret at all putting the time and effort that I have into getting her back on the road. 44,000 miles on her and adding to it every day....

Little bit of history here. 1986 Honda VFR750 - Classic Bikes - AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum

Paul Dean AMA Hall of Fame, 24 hour speed record
Honda attempted to break the Cycle World/Suzuki record with its first VFR750F, and Dean provided the company with some of the valuable information his team had learned in their run. Then, mere minutes after successfully breaking the 24-hour record, Honda turned the VFR over to Dean and allowed him to ride it from Texas back to Southern California and perform a complete teardown of the engine. Dean found that the majority of the wear items in the VFR’s engine were still within installation specs, even after the grueling test.

I ride mine all the time, it's great to have so many people come over to talk about it when I stop for gas or go to bike night, and it's great sounds and riding comfort make it a hoot to ride.

    the 1991 is a gen 3.
    But yes, they are amazing.
Is that color stock? I saw one not too long ago in that color, and I thought someone had painted it.
If it is stock, is it from the USA?
    Ride on.

Agreed. It is a piece of history and has a following. When people see mine, they think it is new. They don't realize that it is 24 years old. I always thought that the bike was way ahead of it's time.

The second and third gens are just shy of perfect, if not for some unfortunate wiring issues they would be a ten.
