    How was your day Beta?
According to many people that track conditions are much improved since the repaving but the new pavement feels vague with too many gradual bumps. The morning was chilly for us and a few riders went down on the cold pavement. Ninja got both knees down for the first time in the last session before her fuel light came on. Jay was running in the top and is looking for a bump soon. I had a Moto GP save when I lost the front and rear in #9, my outside foot stuck up in the air, my exhaust header scraped, and she caught back on hardly missing a beat. I think it was the bumps on the exit that upset the chassis. Good times, good people.

it was all good, a new personal best (3 secs off last years best) and my average lap time for the day was equal to my best time last year. Wind was a little sketchy, but all in all a great day. The irregularities between 5 and 7 were a little wierd - a lot of boobles that felt like the headstock bearings were loose, but it was the track. Was really raining among the top 5-7 guys in B group and thought about going for a bump but passed. Feel wasnt much of an issue for me, even with tires (diablo) that had (shock) 4,200 miles on them (yikes). I thought they only had 2,000 on them until I got home and checked my maintenance log.

Looking forward to VIR 7/16 and 17

out of curiosity what was your times? from my videos it looks like i was doing around the high 1:30's. and if i had a real sportbike that didnt top out at 130 it would be even lower lol. under better circumstances i dont doubt that i could get very close to the 30's. had a great time in the afternoon once i got my head back into it.

I stopped by SP on my RSV4 on Saturday. Must've been betarace's bike I saw near where one of my friends was pitted. #11 right?

BTW, a 4th generation will very easily do 1:25s and less.

I am running a -1/+2 sprocket so it only runs at like 145(ish)... pulls like a truck on corner exits, gets passed by almost everything in the straight

1:41, what are you an old man? :) Just Kidding Steve. Well I may be getting back to track days myself, and hopefully get back to my old form on Summit Main when I used to run in the 1:28's.

I just sold the VFR finally, and I got a new 2010 CBR1000rr. However, I will have to find a new track weapon since the 51 is gone also, as I don't intend on using the new CBR for the track. Maybe I will get lucky and find a cheap GSXR-750 or a CBR600rr for a track weapon.

You got to love them scream and parkers, especially in Turn 1 on the Main circuit, only to blow by them on the exit of 2, up the hill on 3, and then disappear down the chute in turns 4-5. I love the chute.

Hey now, turn 1 isn't the scary turn, it is turn 4 (The Chute) and Turn 9.

Not sure if that is the best methodology, but do what you are comfortable with. :)

Heading up to Summit with the Track Day Custom boyz on the 12th; gonna catch some of the WERA races too. Supposed to get a chance to get a chance to cruz the track at lunch, and my daughter is gonna ride 2up with a former Ducati Pro rider licensed to do 2up at race pace! Gonna be fun. If anyone else is gonna be there, we'll be with the TDC folks and their big white semi on the infield, find us.

Glockem- Sorry I couldnt call you back and give you a report on the weather.

    Summit Point Track Day Report:
B Group- Morning Session- Almost a complete waste of time. The track was cover in some sort of dust. I spun up the rear tire coming out of turn 6 rear bad (didn't wreck but I don't think I have ever had to put that much steering input into correcting a spin up before!). The story behind the track condition was that they had identified some issues and did some track repairs right after the Roger Lyle trackday. So Thursday night the track management went out and drill a few spots and then sent out a steam roller to re-roll. The thought is that the roller may have spread shit all over the track. Either way everyone was coming back complaining about traction and every one had a white dust like crap on their tires. We were told that during our lunch break the summit staff was going to clean the track. I used the morning sessions to site in the track. The only other time I had been on Summit Main was last year in the rain. And I took nothing away from that track day. Some of the riders I was with asked to get a bump to I group. I told them I would just stick it out in B group. With still learning the track I felt I was better off in B group.

B Group- Afternoon Sessions- With what seemed like a lot of riders bumping up to I group, I felt like I had open track for the rest of the day. The cleaning of track was awesome and I we were left with a track with a lot of grip. I would roll into pit lane to be automatically waved onto the track each time. I don't think I saw a control rider during any of my afternoon sessions. But being a typical newb, I hammered down the straight and not put enough faith into my brakes. I would brake way to early and would be done by the time I would get to the last braking marker. Each time I would talk myself into pushing it a little later and a little bit later. Like any other track day: "If I only had a couple more times I would have....." Turn 4 I had to relearn after lunch. In the morning sessions, all the traffic in front of me would brake hard going up the hill. When I got open track space in the afternoon, I pushed the turn faster and faster. My mind told me I could take turn 4 fast but then my mind would say, "hey man, do you have enough space to scrub speed for turn 5??" I found a good rythme that worked well for turn 6,7,8 and 9. Turn 10 I would either hit it right or ever so often I would brake hard after going under the bridge. Scrubbing way too much speed for turn ten. If I did that I would just push the bike over and twist the wrist wide open.

All and all I was able to have a great time and learn a new track. I'm looking forward to the next track day at summit. And I was able to identify some areas I need to work on. Probably going to hit up the MARRC Track Day again on July 2nd.

Here is a short clip of me warming up my tires. I had just finished my first lap when I looked down track and noticed a rider that I had identified as being slower. Even in the afternoon session we were told we could only pass in the straight and between turn 9 and 10. So I camped out behind the guy and waited. Watch as this guy is all over the place. Still had an effect on me and threw me off my game even after I passed him. For some reason my gopro just decided to turn itself off. Which sucks because later in the same session I put together a nice set of laps. I even passed that rider again about three laps later.

Sounds like you had a good time. I swear, will they ever get that pavement fixed at Summit?

Matt, here is a tip about what I call Turn 3 at Main, which is the fast uphill left hander. If you have a lot of guys braking hard for that turn, and they are likely taking a tight line, and then kissing the rumble strips at the top of the hill. You can easily blow by these guys, by entering Turn 3 a little wider and squaring it off only to be passing these other bikes down their left sides at the top of the hill, while they are puckering about hitting the rumble strips you are already passing them by carrying that drive full steam all the way down into the Chute Turn's 4/5, and if anyone is there at Turn 4, just politely go right around the outside of them, take a tight line into five (left hander) after grabbing a ton of brakes, 2-3 downshifts, and having the rear tire off the ground. That should be your pure enjoyment moment for the day. :)
