You ever have people in cars get mad at you for using a parking spot for your bike?

    Who cares if they do?

There are plenty of municipalities in NJ that require a single vehicle in a single space. That means if you & a buddy go riding & stop for lunch, each of you needs to be in a separate space.

    KC-10 FE out...

No, but I get annoyed at a-holes in cars who hog two parking spots, and there are plenty of them around. Some can't help it because they just can't drive worth a shite. Others think their car is more precious than someone else's and deserves special protection. Both a-holes, but for different reasons.

    OK, I feel better now.

Yes had some one yell at me for wasting a space close to the store one night said i needed to park in the no parking zone where the other bikers park. Which is semi allowed around here, the yellow stripped areas at the begining of the parking areas at stores by the handicap spots. But you can still get a ticket if a cop wants to give one.

What I hate more is people at work parking cars in the motorcycle spots cause they do not want to go to the other parking lot and we get to park at the front of the lot closer to the building.

Funny this gets mentioned.I stopped at the 7-11 to get a cup of coffee before I hit the scholastic stuff for the day...I park to the right of the "stall (big ugly greasy spot middle and to the left) and I'm in the store for a few minutes and a car starts honking...no big deal just thought maybe it was a car alarm.... I go out with my coffee.. and this lady not a spring chicken but not an old piece of leather either, is sitting in her car honking the horn.. in the stall next to the bike. I walked over put the coffee in my "cup holder" and she rolls her window down and asked me if I would move the damn motorcycle so she could get out of her car....(She was acctually about three inches into my spot) I said no, I'll move it when I leave. She procceeded to tell me about how motorcycles were the worst thing on the road and all we do is speed all over and make them sound real loud. and that all "bikers should be in jail".. I proceeded to finish my coffee she honked her horn a few more times.. when I got ready to leave I started my bike up and let it idle for a minute. while I "adjusted" my helmet, and my mirrors, I leaned over to her and told her to have a wonderfulday and I hoped that everyone she talked to would have a smile on thier faces after talking with her.... oh yeah, she wsa driving a Volvo.....

Well, I have been riding on the street since I was 18. And I always saw these guys park thier precious Harleys on sidewaks. I always parked whatever rat bike I had out in a regular parking spot with the rest of the cars. But after I got my VFR I also had something I didn't have when I was younger. The internet. So I visited many a forum and found many mixed oppionions on if you are allowed to park on a sidewalk. The general concensus that I found ( for my area at least ) was that if there is no designated motorcycle parking, you can ussually get away with parking somewhere other then general auto parking spots.
When I take the store deposits to the bank, for instance, there is a big long sidewalk, but there is a few places that have 0% foot traffic down at the end because the bussinesses are abandonded. I ussually park my bike there, and I always ask the guard out in front of the bank if it is ok. The answer is always yes. This leaves more room for autos to park, but more importantly minumizes the risk of someone ripping into a spot that they think is vacant and plowing into my bike. There was a sad thread on here a while back about a viffer getting its frame broken in a walmart parking lot by some old lady that hit it, and drove away.
Now there are also some places that I wouldn't trust to park in a "grey area" - either. But there are places I wouldnt take my bike.
If I was going out to the movies I wouldnt trust my bike in the parking lot for fear of vandalism, theft or collision. I dont want it out of site for 2 hours unless its in a garage. Parking it on the sidewalk at the theater is probably a surefire ticket as well. I got two bikes and a Jeep. The jeep goes to the movies with me :)
But buying cat food at the local safeway, I am just in and out, I ussually park right next to ( but not blocking ) the designated area for people on bicycles.
I guess long story short is this.
We all know we are invisible on the road to jackass cagers talking on cellphones and doing thier makeup etc etc.
I also think we are invisible in a parking lot as well.
The only ones that see us either way are the police, so try not to stick out like a sore thumb when riding or parking.
    my 2 cents.

I agree. Also those GPS units are distracting people in cars a lot too.
I have seen them going down the street with their face planted in the thing.

    Well done, I salute you!

Wonder what gets their nickers in such a knot?? Is it Cage rage or frustration due to the fact that you are enjoying the day and their air conditioning just quit? Hmmm one wonders...

Kudos for keeping your cool Crusty. My response to her would have been much shorter -- probably about two words long!

A bit of a foot note. When i do park in a full parking spot, which BTW, you are entitled to. You are a licenced motor vehicle, I park as close to the entrance to that particular spot as I safely can. This allows brain dead drivers of Volvo's, a better chance to see you there before they go blasting in to run down your bike. Naturally if there is MC parking available, I use it, and if there is another suitable spot such as a painted island, I "may" use that as well. I try to be reasonable so that cagers can have their spots too. But never, and I mean never, do I park on a sidewalk. That is for pedestrians, many of whom have difficulty getting around as it is

I hate using car parking spaces alone. If we are out in a group we all park in one or two spots. This way all those slack jawed mouth breathing idiot cage users can see our rides. I usually get up on the side walk near were I am going down here in FL. In NYC I used to use a new york city chain chained to an un-movable object in a area where there were people so some sub human scum with a bolt cutter or a cutting torch couldnt just pull up and jack my chit. Used to use a big U lock too, and I removed my plate.

    Are you certian that's true?

If you are on a public street and parking in a stripped area then I completely agree. However, in a private parkinglot and provided you aren't in a "fire lane", I don't believe they could issue a ticket without a complaint from owner/manager of the lot or mall. JMO - I know I'd challenge the ticket. I've been known to park in the stripped area at the end of the row close to the store. Haven't had a problem yet.

All good stuff...+1 on your restraint Crusty...I would have been in the two word camp too. At my office building there is NO motorcycle parking and I'm nervous about a cager plowing into the viffer out there on her own all day. Some days when it's going to be nasty I park it up near the front to the side of the entrance, under the overhang, but that's not really a good solution.

    WTF is with people?
Not sure if the 'news' got out of Ohio, but some walking organ donor actually drove across a set of tracks and got hit by a train "because the GPS told her to go that way". That's the kind of stuff you really just can't make up...
She'll probably try to sue Garmin, too.

And +1 for Crusty keeping his cool. Lucky for her he didn't fit her stereotype of hooligan thug, and take a dump on her hood before doing a monster burnout next to her.

99% of the store parking lots have signs "this property is under blah blah city or county police jurisdiction". Which gives the cops the right to police it and give tickets as they see fit without the store getting involved. I have never gotten a ticket parking in one but I have seen them given out to other bikes. All depends on the cop and if he needs to meet his quota or not. about 50% of the Police budgets come from tickets so they write tickets just for the cash influx sometimes.

Never do anything stupid in the last 5 days of the month you will get the max fine.
