Hello, Anyone have any ideas?. Just bought a 2003 from original owner with 2900 miles on it. after riding it for about 40 mins I parked in a garage put it on the side stand and was was taking off helmet and stuff(engine still running and fan on) when all of a sudden the headlights went out and the engine stopped. about 5 seconds later the panel lights came back on and the fan came back on but no headlights. I thought nothing of it( no idea why) and put the bike on center stand and left(in the back of my head I thought this would turn into a problem). Upon returning to the bike about 4 and half hours later I turned it to "on" position and still no headlights and no whine from the pump just a softer buzzing noise from the panel (constant) The bike would start and run for about 3 sec and then shut off. I fiddled around with the main fuse behind the battery and (upon suggestion from friend who thought The BAS was stuck) rocked the bike on the stand And then turned the key back to on and Lights and whine. The bike started and stayed running. On the ride home at about 65 in sixth the headlights went off and the engine died. this lasted for about 4 sec then then headlight came back on and and the engine started again. This has happend three more times since then (yesterday) Does anyone know what this could be?
Well, first of all, welcome to the forum! Congrats on the new purchase, and sorry for your troubles. I am sure this has been done, but I must ask....has the "wiring harness recall" been performed on this bike? I believe you can tell from the VIN since they take a punch out of it after it is done. If you are still unsure, call up Honda and give them your VIN to see if they have it on file as being performed on your bike. Find that out first, then we will have more information to go on. After that, I would start testing voltages while the bike is off, at idle, and 5k or so. Check battery connections, fuses, wiring for damage....
Sound like you and I are in the same boat except I'm having the recall done before I attempt to ride it across the country. I used the Honda Owners Link to research the recall status and it showed up right away.
