new to this site and new to this breed of bike... i just got my hands on a 84 vf500f that "doesn't run".... the main issue i have found is lack of fuel out of the tank. i'm getting none... i drained the petcock and cleared the screen but i still have no gravity feed and not sure if i should due to the fact that theres a vacum diaphram on the petcock... i remove the petcock and the tank will drain out freely. only problem i'm having is the bike has been apart before and i can't find a vacum line anywhere... i did find what looks to be a vacum port on the one intake runner where the 3 other runners are blocked. i'm going to try to connect that tomorrow when i get back to the bike when i put the carbs back on... i was told it had carb issues from it sitting but everything checked out ok in that area... i just can't seem to get the fuel to the carbs... engine runs and sounds great on 2+2... the fuel pump is runnig too so i'm thinking it has to be the petcock issue... any suggestions on what else to check would be great... i'm new to honda sport bikes...

I believe the 84 isn't a gravity feed system, but instead uses a pump...might want to look in that direction.

HERE is some info on converting your 84 to a gravity fed system

i'm gonna try hooking the vacum up if that does work i'll try thr gravity feed setup but i think it may be a little more involved since i couldn't get the tank to gravity feed with the vacum diaphram removed... i'll keep you posted... thanks for the tip... heading down to the shop now... any one know where to find the plastics cheap for the bike?

The rearmost hole on the petcock connects to the vaccum port on the left rear cylinder ...you should be able to get flow by sucking on vaccum tube.

    Good Luck.

It IS a different setup. As I understand it, the 86 comes from the factory as a gravity fed system.
