    PA,

It seems that Long has done this before. I will see him at SLO10. So if I can purchase the bulb at SLO, I will do the job there.

Thanks for the info. Oh, I have no idea what lights I have now. Stock.

Anyone install these HIDs on a 4th Gen? Safe to assume you would need to bend or clip off the tabs to make it fit the bulb housing correctly? Not sure if the other Gens have the same design issue.

bb: Mine are the same way on my 5th Gen. I clipped off 2 of the 3 tabs. Works fine it seems.

Dr.Long did a great job on my 6th gen. HID made a huge difference compared to the stocks.

Thanks for the confirmation. The installation seems pretty straight forward. I just need to find a good spot to mount the ballasts. Lighting on my 4th Gen is pretty much the suck.

You're welcome. That was the biggest PITA was finding a suitable mounting location for the ballasts.

BTW: Anyone have any idea how hot the radiators get during normal use?

You buy when you arrive at SLO, even if you have to bring one bottle at a time back from the store :)

They shouldn't get hotter than the hottest ECT you see. So, probably just a little less than ~220°F on the right rad, and a little less than that on the left. But that's the coolant temperature inside... I'm sure the radiator bodies stay a bit cooler.

Alright, thanks E. I just don't want my ballasts to overheat at their current positions.

Maybe try to fit some thick piece of plastic between the radiator and the ballast? Plastic shouldn't heat soak too much ...

Or, let the bike idle up to max temp (when fan comes on) and see how hot they feel.

'tis what I did. I used a rubber, though, designed for weather proofing. I am going to pop the one fairing off tomorrow to confirm it's not overheating/melting.

Do you have specs for the max ambient temperature the ballasts should be exposed to? I really don't think it should be an issue in the location you have them with the rubber there... but always best to check!

Negative at the moment. I just have this:

    High voltage converter and ignitor
    Operational input voltage 8-16 V
    Maximum input current 8 A
Minimum voltage loaded (lamp on) 60 V
Maximum voltage loaded (lamp on) 120 V
    Output voltage from ignitor
    Nominal voltage 23000 V
    Minimum voltage 18000 V
    Lifetime >3000hours

    Do it UP!!

Hi.....I'd recommend a relay kit. I ran my 5G without one with no problems, but just to keep everything kosher, I bought a relay kit and installed it. This will insure no harnessess or bulb sockets being burnt. I got a retro fit on my rig, but I have to fine tune it. I don't use high beams.....cause the dual lows are quite bright....by the way, ballasts are mounted with two sided 3M tap to the inside of the front fairing.
